Is there a difference in the halachic status of goyish music, during sefirah vs. the rest of the year?
probably not
You’re asking altz אין איסור חל על איסור?
More or less. A rebbi once gave my class a heter to listen to goyish music during sefirah, saying that it makes no difference all year round.
@daasyochid one thousand percent! that’s how we grew up in yeshiva that אין איסור חל על איסור
We never really asked it’s just soooooo hard not to listen to music and בפרט today’s days I’m not sure if the goiyeshe music sounds worse then all the akepelah garbage
Lakewhut:
That point he was making was that if people are meikel on goyish music they might as well just be meikel on music during sfirah? A sort of ironic commentary on the common practice in America to take one of those things more seriously than the other?
The constituency of people outside Chassidim who are makpid on avoiding non-Jewish music is rapidly decreasing. Accordingly, the size of the group of people who listen to goyish music, but avoid all music during the sfira is growing. I personally don’t really have any problem with that.
I suppose then all music is OK, since most Jewish music is neither.
