The mayor has announced a policy of allowing gathering of any size for a purpose he approves of (rioting). The means he has decided that public gatherings, without social distancing, or no longer a threat to public health. Unless overrules by the Governor (who commands the New York National Guard), this eliminates the argument that Dina Malchus Dina applies to the ban on minyanim, since we have never honored discriminatory anti-Torah policies.

The truth is the police cannot legally enter a shul without a warrant to investigate as shuls are private property “members only”.
In the current riot climate the last thing they would do would be to close shuls, unless it’s after curfew.June 2, 2020 9:20 am at 9:20 am #1866804akupermaParticipantIt was very impressive in Baltimore to see the picture of perhaps 1000 people standing close together for a demonstration (blocking a major highway, during what used to be called rush hour), with the blessing the of the mayor and the police and the political leadership – while the city (and the Vaad ha-Rabbanim) still ban minyanim inside shuls.
