Just wondering. What does the name mean? Does this refer to Hillel Hazaken?

Not exactly. It refers to the stories in Avos about Hillel HaZaken’s patience with every ger and am haaretz that came to bother him. They are run by B’nai B’rith, an officially non-denominational Jewish organization.

There is not much Jewish about “Hillel House”.

The Hillel Houses are on college campuses and are open to be a place for Jewish students to affiliate with Judaism. As said before, “They are run by B’nai B’rith, an officially non-denominational Jewish organization.” They generally attract a non-Orthodox crown.

Canine, I beg to differ. Many provide kosher food, a shul, a beis medrash, and shiurim by chashuveh Rabbonim. In one highly regarded campus, the Lakewood Kollel Yungeleit regularly give shiurim to both beginners and people who have learned a number of years in yeshiva.

    Why do you knock them?

    canine: care to elaborate?

canine…obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.

A place that provides kosher food, hosts shabbos meals etc. seems pretty Jewish to me…

You probably think a Conservative “synagogue” is “Jewish” too.
