To keep yourself awake on shavous night:
Do you drink coffee? Tea? Soda?
How about energy drinks? Do they work? Are they worth their price?
Any other tricks to stay awake?

I long ago gave up learning through the night since the negatives far outweighed what I gained from the exercise.
Then there are all the interruptions with coffee/refreshment breaks.
So for me; I wait too long for the Yom Tov and want to enjoy it with proper learning, davening, and seudos with my family and friends, and these pleasures won’t be the karbon for the all-nighter experience.

In Gateshead you Daven maariv after 11 pm and Shachris (alos) can be at 2 am. work that out. In the yeshivos they only daven vosikin, starting at 4ish to get some learning in.

May 20, 2009 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #645761feivelParticipantmy question is how to stay awake for Davening Shavuos morning
i do this by getting some sleep Shavuos night
May 20, 2009 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #645762mamashtakahMemberLast year was a bit hard for me during the davening because it was our first Shavuot in Israel. That means that we had a longer davening, because all the second day additions (Megillat Rut, and Yizkor) get added into davening as well. It all worked out in the end, and I managed to daven, stay awake, and come home for a nice cheesecake kiddish before I went to bed. (Something else that I really liked is that Megillat Rut is read 20 minutes before davening starts in the morning.)

May 21, 2009 1:07 pm at 1:07 pm #645767oomisParticipantLOTS AND LOTS of cola, plus if possible (yeah right!), try to chaap a nap erev yom tov.
Coffee helps, especially if you drink it around 6 or 7 PM. Then coffee through the night as needed. No Doz helps some people also (it is the caffeine equivalent of two cups of coffee). It also helps if you go to a lecture that is actually interesting to follow. We have people speak about Jewish Medical Ethics, Kashrus, etc. each speaker does another shiur through the night.
