I’m writing this thread because I’m extremely confused. How do you you pronounce your name. For example, The Goq, do you pronounce the o like it is in “rock” or in “soap.” So please, if you’ve got a hard-to-pronounce screen name PLEASE WRITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m sorry, but I can’t give away such sensitive information. It might be used to compromise my identity. Jothar, where are you???

As in The Goq likes to rock on his deck which he locks so that his neighbors wont come by and mock him while he sits in his frock in his house next to the dock while he checks his 401k stocks.

My screen name is phonetically based on the Xhosa clicking language, and is unpronounceable in the Western hemisphere.

The 2 in my name is actually meant to be read as a question mark.

Why would you want a question mark after your name?

    #1018768

So that it would be read as a question and not a statement. Also, I’m being entirely facetious (sort of).

gregaaron, I am also knowledgeable (but not as fluent) in the other Bantu dialects. they’re similar but still different, like comparing Early Aramaic and Akkadian. The tough part was pronouncing my clicks without that Brahmin accent I picked up from my college years up in Cambridge. I was actually working on an Aramaic-Xhosa dictionary during my Congo fellowship, but my grant money ran out right after “geluskema”.

    Jothar: brilliant!

My screen name is pronounced with a flat midwestern accent, as opposed to the nasal Tri-State accent or the Yeshivish “woindering Choina”.

The “B” is silent like in the word “doubt”. The “T” is pronounced like the “pt” in “pterodactyl”, and

the “Guy” part is the common pronunciation sounding like “sky”.

kollel101: for some reason your transliteration sounds like i’m starting to say ko-ah-lel, as in koala(with an L at the end)

ShtickyGuy: finally got it! that was really clarifying!
