You know your username doesn’t have to be your real full name right?May 13, 2016 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #1151772MDGParticipant
In my opinion, it’s whatever you two are comfortable with, both financially and aesthetically. It’s between you two.

We got engaged when buying a diamond was tantamount to supporting apartheid. Since we weren’t comfortable with that, we didn’t have an engagement ring. Many years later, my wife expressed a desire for a CZ solitaire, so I got her one for around $100 if I remember correctly.May 13, 2016 9:03 pm at 9:03 pm #1151776CTLAWYERParticipant
There is no standard amount. The marketing arm of DeBeers and the American Retail Jewelers organizations suggest three months gross income for working individuals.
You should only spend what you can comfortably afford. You should also take into account the norms in your community. If your kallah’s classmates, friends and relatives sport 1 carat diamonds, don’t buy her a 4 carat stone, even if you can afford it. She will feel awkward wearing it and attracting attention.May 15, 2016 1:49 am at 1:49 am #1151777
Thanks for your input everyone. I just want to know how much the average choson spends. I mean average in all respects.May 15, 2016 2:48 am at 2:48 am #1151778Quacky the duckParticipant

I just tried. Ywn doesn’t allow me to change my username. I don’t see an option to delete my account either. I might sue ywn. Seriously.May 16, 2016 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm #1151784☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant

Wow I totally forgot about this thread. The engagement didn’t work out with that girl. It was called off almost right before we were supposed to announce it. I got married to someone from Israel just before this Pesach. I spent 2800 shekel on the engagement ring. Funny thing, I think the other girl married an Israeli too.
