So here I was flying. And carrying one of each of the following:
A roller board.
A suit bag.
A satchel with my computer and shulchan aruch. Big shulchan aruch. YD gimmel.
And I walk up to board, and the mean lady says I need to check one. Which was unfair. Because I was anyway hanging the suit bag in front, so then I would have one bag on top and one under my seat just like everyone else. So they tagged it and took it and I went down the jetbridge.
And then the dude comes down with my bag, and leaves it by the door at the end of the bridge.
So’s I turns to the dude behind me, and tell him, and he agrees with me. That I should just grab it and bring it on the plane. So I do.
And then put it in the overhead thing. So my dude behind me says I should rip off the tag so they can’t tell. But I was afraid they would be more mad at me if I did, and anyway didn’t think they’d come looking.
But they did come looking, and saw my tag, and stole my bag!!! And it took like 45 minutes for the baggage to come out.
And they didn’t even flip me!

Next time hold the suit bag folded with the other stuff underneath it.
Why not just follow the rules?
Stop fighting the system.
You’re so lucky it took 45 minutes but the bag did ultimately come out.
Don’t try playing games with the airlines.
They’re bigger & meaner than you and they always win. Sometimes that means you lose.
Next time check the roller board in. Or whichever of the 3 pieces you value least. Don’t hand them anything you can’t live without. My husband always holds on to his Tallis and Tefillin and a sefer (or two).
Rather than asking “What’s a roller board?” I googled it. I figured it probably wasn’t something for cross country skiing strength training or something that kids sit on and roll around. It must be a carryon on wheels, which is probably supposed to be a rollaboard (roll + aboard).
They should make weight limits or something, because why can someone come on with 2 small suitcases, but not a garment bag, tefilin bag, and suitcase, which takes up less space?
I like to follow rules, so the last time I flew and did not want to check baggage, I stuffed a garment bag into another large bag with a small bag and asked if I now have 2 bags. They said, “That’s okay.” Then I separated them when I got on the plane.
T613, I have been complaining about that for years. I often travel with a bag that is close to and sometimes slightly above 50 lbs. I can theoretically put a bunch of the stuff in my carry-on but then I have to shlep it around. It’s the same weight either way so shouldn’t make a difference to the airlines. Adaraba, they should be happier if I put most of the stuff in the overweight bag so that there is more room in the overhead. The bag takes up the same amount of space either way.
I guess the heavier bag is a bigger tircha for the baggage handler.
Still, I was always of the opinion that each passenger should have to stand on a scale with all of their bags, both checked and carry-on, and be charged by weight accordingly…
