How does one know the screen name fits?

    #950052

I think ‘screen names’ are a very bad thing. The biggest danger of the internet, as I see it, is the anonimity it provides. You can do anything you want online and nobody will ever know. You can write the most insulting things, and nobody will ever get angry with you.

As for me, quite a few people in Gateshead know who I am. (Though I’m not really all that chassidish any more – I’m a bit more modern nowadays…) That means that anything I say here, I may be asked about later. I think that’s ideal.

You mean I could be dangerous here?!?! That’s a scary thought. HELP. I’m running away from myself..

OOM – LOL!!! I just dug up this thread while noticing the same resemblance on a more recent thread wondering if it was a fluke.

Syag, Are you actually wondering if I am myself? Administration here won’t allow me to either confirm or deny.

Thats why I post under my legal name*, If I can’t sign my name to it I probably should not say it on the internet (or anywhere else)

    * Or at least something pretty close to it, I don’t use my middle name here for example, but you get the point

Zach – what a riot! I thought your name was some phrase in yiddish. Zach- as in ‘thing’ – and I didn’t know what kessin was but it sounded yiddish too.

I don’t speek Yiddish, Kessin is what the family name became when my grandfather was in the US Navy in WWII. It used to be something in Russian. My Legal name is Zachary or Zachariah depending on which country and language I am in.

sometimes people don’t want other random people to know their real name but they use a screen name that fits. I chose notasheep cause I like to think for myself and not just follow blindly. So if you were, say, a Discworld fan, you could always choose a name that reflects that

Actually I love the Discworld books.

Don’t do what I did (try to think of the most boring screenname imaginable)

OK, I won’t. Thinkorator safely powered down.

Do what I did- change my nickname when I decided I didn’t like my old one.

Just pick two qualities you pride yourself in having. Case in point: rational frummie. Yes, it’s a bit of an oxymoron, but faith and reason should be best friends 🙂
