I hate bees. What do you do to keep them out of your Sukkah?
September 21, 2009 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #659870mybatMemberI remember the bees on sukkot in NY! Ah don’t have that problem anymore. Now all I have to worry about is the HUGE thunderstorms every night!
September 21, 2009 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #659871ulisisMemberOne word: Gatling gun.
September 21, 2009 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #659872Be HappyParticipantHave a jar of beer in the garden – that will attract the bees so they stay out of the Sukka!
September 21, 2009 10:36 pm at 10:36 pm #659873mazcaMemberI have a friend that the problem are not the bees. they worry about scorpions…How do you keep scorpions out of the succah?
September 21, 2009 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #659874squeakParticipantWhat is this? I mention the word troll and ulisis shows up with a Gatling gun? 🙂
September 21, 2009 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #659875plonisalmonisMemberWe put a little bit of meat and some apple juice in a bee trap. It usually works. Like we only get one a meal instead of swarms.
September 22, 2009 1:17 am at 1:17 am #659876mosheroseMembera bee trap works well for us.
September 22, 2009 2:00 am at 2:00 am #659877JaxMemberi’ve never seen a bee in my succah in all my years!
September 22, 2009 2:58 am at 2:58 am #659878JosephParticipant“i’ve never seen a bee in my succah in all my years!”
Even during your first Succos after coming from Europe, when they had they famous bee outbreak in 1949?
September 22, 2009 3:34 am at 3:34 am #659879postMemberYour inflammatory and disrespectful posts will not be approved. If you wish to make a point please do so politely,
September 22, 2009 3:47 am at 3:47 am #659880oomisParticipantBee traps at various parts of my yard.(and I keep one at the top of my succah on the outside).

September 22, 2009 4:52 am at 4:52 am #659883JaxMemberJoseph: oops, geography was never my thing!
September 22, 2009 5:12 am at 5:12 am #659884bein_hasdorimParticipantSince we put up the sign (in big clear letters)
No bees allowed, so Buzz off!!!
We haven’t had any problems.
We also keep our honey jar closed.
September 22, 2009 6:48 am at 6:48 am #659885JaxMemberJoseph: kidding, i Aced history!
September 22, 2009 11:26 am at 11:26 am #659886JosephParticipantJax: You also think history and geography are the same thing? Everyone knows Ireland is part of Europe! Maybe your small town in Central Ireland seceded and swam away? 😉
September 22, 2009 3:55 pm at 3:55 pm #659887mazcaMembersolution,,,,,take bees out of the succah…..just ask them in a polite way…maybe they would listen.
September 22, 2009 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #659888mepalMemberSounds just as good as B_H’s advice.

there are like ten posts here and maybe 2 of them give a solution to the issue. the other 8 are either bad jokes or information no one cares about. if you want to babble gibberish do it somewhere else.
post, your new here and you got it all wrong. This is what the CR is all about. You’ll just have to make peace with the situation if you want to continue enjoying your stay here.
September 22, 2009 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #659890cherrybimParticipantI spray Raid on the sukkah walls where the schach ends rest and around any openings before going to shul in the morning; seems to work.
September 22, 2009 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #659891mazcaMemberSorry, I was just trying to tell people to ask in a nice way and not to be angry all the time,, maybe you could get more responses this way
September 22, 2009 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm #659892mepalMembercherry, but doesnt your sukkah stink then?
mazca, lol 😉
September 22, 2009 5:46 pm at 5:46 pm #659893cherrybimParticipantI do it at about 8AM, when I come back from shul no one notices an odar.
September 22, 2009 5:53 pm at 5:53 pm #659894mepalMemberOh, that’s good. BH we never really had any issues in the past, but its a good idea to keep in mind.
September 22, 2009 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #659895mazal77ParticipantI think those bee traps that are being sold are Tzaar L’baalei chaim. Unless the bees are killed immediately, not a problem, but those traps prolong their suffering. Maybe get those zappers.
September 22, 2009 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #659896oomisParticipantIf the bee traps were assur (tzaar baal chaim), then why would any of the Judaica shops be selling them? There is a halacha that if someone comes to kill you, you should get up and kill them first. In my family, many of us are highly allergic to bee stings, my husband and my son in particular. We are not supposed to kill them on Shabbos and Yom tov, so it seems a fair compromise to let them wander in to the traps. After all, they just as easily might NOT wander in, they only go in because they are greedy. (I wrote this slightly tongue in cheek, so don’t all get upset).
September 23, 2009 12:22 am at 12:22 am #659897gourmetMemberWe do several applications of raid and various traps. We also make sure my epipen is well within reach, just in case.
September 23, 2009 1:11 am at 1:11 am #659898oomisParticipantThe epi pen is a GREAT idea. My husband ended up in the hospital as a child when he was stung.
September 24, 2009 3:21 am at 3:21 am #659899bein_hasdorimParticipantmepal: Thanks for pointing out how corny my comment was.
mazca: Thanks for reminding mepal. 🙂
