Send a message, if it bounces back with “xxx is offline”, then they’re offline.
July 16, 2013 10:49 pm at 10:49 pm #966027pinnymMemberwhy would anyone pretend to do that?
July 16, 2013 10:54 pm at 10:54 pm #966028UtahMembermaybe because they dont want to talk

If it bounces back with “xxx is ignoring you” then you know they are pretending.
July 16, 2013 11:09 pm at 11:09 pm #966030writersoulParticipantALL of my friends do that. It is so incredibly annoying.
That’s what I usually do if I want to chat them. If they don’t answer then it’s none of my business.
Better than what I do, showing up as active and STILL ignoring chats…

July 17, 2013 12:36 pm at 12:36 pm #966032supermeMemberExactly! So google chat, watsapp, Facebook it all tells u if the person is online or offline. But yes I hate when it shows that there online already and didn’t answer you back its rude!
July 17, 2013 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #966033oneoutofthreeMemberWhy exactly is it rude? No one is entitled to answer you as soon as they go online. How about your friend’s got his/her business to take care of first or didn’t have the patience at that moment to answer “lol”, “Hiya m crazy busy at the moment” or wateve….
July 17, 2013 2:14 pm at 2:14 pm #966034oneoutofthreeMemberOh and perhaps its someone else using the account at the moment… a snoopy sibling or parent… (errr…)
July 17, 2013 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm #966035writersoulParticipantoneoutofthree: I actually share an email account, and that has happened to me- my friends have chatted/emailed me when I wasn’t home but my sister was using the email account and then gotten insulted when I didn’t immediately reply.
Actually, it’s also a good excuse for when I’m on but I don’t want to answer- though I don’t give excuses. If I don’t want to answer why should I?
July 17, 2013 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #966036oneoutofthreeMemberYe no one should take it as a personal offense if they’re not answered right away, there can be a gazillion reasons to take offense and then again not to.
July 17, 2013 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm #966037WIYMemberWhich mitzvah is it in the Torah that says I must respond to every text ASAP usually within minutes of receiving it? Why are people so sensitive these days and assume the worst if you don’t answer immediately?
July 17, 2013 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #966038Torah613TorahParticipantGchat is assur. It can lead to talking to the opposite gender on YWN CR.
