Contrary to misguided public opinion. The ICE deportation sweeps that began today are not solely focused on brown and Hispanic people.
The thrust of the sweeps is to pick up those already under deportation orders, BUT>>>when the ICE agents enter premises they are free to check all people present and take in custody those they suspect of being in the US illegally.
This morning, I was at my nephew’s home just outside Boston as we marked my father’s Yahrzeit with a family minyan and breakfast. My Niece-in-Law received an emergency phone call that during a raid in Boston to pick up a White Irish male who was subject to a deportation order, ICE grabbed the female Hispanic cleaning lady and had her in custody. My Niece-in-Law practices law that affects females and minorities. She grabbed her briefcase and told me to get ready to go with her. I am admitted to the Federal Bar (which she is not) and I speak Spanish.
We rushed to the building where the people swept up in the raids were being held. The woman’s 12 year old daughter was waiting for us, crying and screaming for her mother. I examined the documents the girl had brought from home.
Momma, was born in Puerto Rico and a US citizen. She carried a drivers license, but nothing that said she was a citizen, why would she have to so do? We don’t have national identity cards in the US.
It took about two hours and I secured the woman’s release. On my advice she will now carry her passport with her at all times.
The Legal Aid lawyer who seemed to be directing volunteer activity, noticed my Dark suit and tie and covered head and approached me. One of the men rounded up was an Israeli who had overstayed a tourist visa and did not speak much English (this is common in NY, not in Boston) could I help?
I had a look at the deportation order and arrest warrant. All was in order. He had been ordered to leave the country by March 1 and had ignored the court order. I felt bad for him, but there was nothing I could do to change the situation. He will be on a flight to TLV within 48 hours.

So, the news may lead you to believe that this is a push to round up those coming across the southern border, but in NY and MA they are actively going after whites from Ireland and Israel. These states and people were chosen for political reasons by the Trump administration. NY and MA are blue states, and the Irish and Jewish generally vote D.

All in all it is reminiscent of Germany in the mid 1930s. First they deported Jews who were not German citizens, then they stripped the remaining Jews of German Citizenship and started rounding them up.

Herr Trump is following the Hitler playbook and must be stopped. The frum community has been fooled by him so far, but when he turns on the Jews, it won’t matter that you voted R in 2016, or that his formerly Protestant daughter ‘converted’ and married a Jew. He and his KKK type supporters will be gunning for all of us.

CT Lawyer: Why are you surprised? Herr Trumpkopf this morning tweeted that 4 members of Congress, all of whom are U.S. citizens and 3 of whom were born in the U.S. “should go back to their countries” because he disagrees with their politics (as do I and most YWN readers). I think a better case could be made to deport Slovenian fashion models whose citizenship status is questionable

One of the neighborhoods that was hit by ICE raids yesterday was Sunset Park, which is heavily Chinese. I thought it was odd that neighborhoods that are heavily Central American were not on the top of the list.

I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. In the case of the Puerto Rican cleaning lady you’re right it was a bad mistake. But no matter who it is, there are penalties for breaking the law regardless if one is Israeli, Russian, Mexican or Japanese. The law is the law and there should be penalties for getting here illegally. As the son of legal immigrants from Russia, it’s ridiculous that this new notion of “undocumented immigrants” is now so mainstream and encouraged.

Also, @CTLAWYER, stop peddling propaganda one way or the other. This is an issue of laws vs. lawlessness.

Your are showing your youth and naïveté if you think this post is merely to troll.
The purpose of this post is to correct the misconception that these ICE raids are solely aimed at brown skinned Hispanics.

I support deportation of those who have been tried in a court of law and so ordered. My family came here legally and I welcome all immigrants that also arrive legally.

    CTL:

You doth think too much. The sweep is to round up those with deportation orders and enforce the law. I may feel bad that an Israeli happens to have broken the law and gets sent home. That’s too bad. There are legal ways to remain in the US. They do require some effort, but the situation is not really that bad. And the immigration system requires overhaul, including the laws. This is not about Trump. It is about the Dems deciding that they want to interfere with anything Trump does.

    You don’t understand liberals

A liberals law is his emotions,

Those poor helpless ILLEGALS aren’t breaking any law if you’re a democrat

Whereas if someone won the presidency through the electoral college he’s illegitimate

I have posted before that youngest Atty. Ms. CTL was born and adopted in China. By YS law she became a US citizen immediately upon adoption. Because of the current xenophobia in Trump’s America we have insisted that she carry her US passport in her handbag. She does practice some labor law and often is involved in cases where some illegal workers have been cheated by unscrupulous employers. A few months back ICE made a raid at the courthouse and one agent demanded she prove her citizenship or be taken into custody.

No where have I advocated breaking the law. I want to make sure the law is followed and applied fairly.
I agree with an earlier poster who suggested that Mrs. Trump #3 who worked while on a tourist visa and had her false education listed to get her next visa be deported along with her thug of a father and mother and brother who used chain migration to gain citizenship. Send them all back to Slovenia.

I would be thrilled to see the “true criminals” rounded up. Those people convicted of drug/ assault/ murder charges , and perhaps even the officials who refuse to support ICE raids for them.

However, it sickens me that they would round up innocent people, citizens or not, as part of a belief that they have free rule to arrest whoever they please. It’s shameful that they would separate families, even for a few hours.

That being said, I believe a Hitler comparison is a little extreme. As someone pointed out, putting them on a plane beats a chamber (though they may receive a death sentence depending on where they’re from). I would like to believe that America could never persecute one nationality so fully as Germany did, because of the diversity here. And with that in mind, I find it interesting that they’re not focused on just Hispanics or Middle Eastern individuals. Perhaps there is hope for this country yet.

CTL, you are trivializing the Holocaust and empowering deniers. To paraphrase Patrick M. Lencioni , if everything is the Holocaust nothing is. If you want a comparison then compare Trump to FDR (who along with fellow liberal icon Earl Warren imprisoned Japanese-Americans without charges for several years). However, the migrants at the border are seeking to better their economic situations although they have no marketable skills and do not know any English. the Jews FDR turned away were professionals and business people. Most at least had a basic knowledge of English.

Is there a reason why major papers such as the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post are not reporting on such “sweeps”. It seems like the “sweeps” are FAKE NEWS.

And as a lawyer, the author of the original post should be supporting changing laws rather than ignoring them. Once you ignore laws you open a “Pandora’s box”. Perhaps the next law the government will ignore might be the one protecting Jews from assault (cf Europe).

    A. In 1936 Hitler’s government put my DIL’s grandparents on a train and deported them to Poland. They had been born there in the late 1800s but had lived in Germany since 1919. They were stripped of German Citizenship because they had not been born there. Their children were born in Germany and so were placed In orphanages not deported. B”H they all made their way to Palestine and survived.

    B. I have not advocated breaking the law. I am in favor of deportation of illegals after proper court action. And I use the word illegal not undocumented.
As an attorney I believe in the rule of law.

My post was not to protest ICE rounding up
Those with deportation orders from courts. It was to illustrate that it was not just brown Hispanics that are targeted.
I am in favor of the deportation of those so ordered by a court.
That said when ICE enters they din just take John Doe who has the order of deportation. There is collateral damage as they examine documentation of all present and have taken legal residents into custody.

CTLAWYER – why don’t they do the paperwork before they get busted then?
When I enter the country as an American citizen, I have to go through customs. I don’t just show up with suitcases, use someone elses Identity, and get an apartment (essentially evading the credit check). After spending 7 THOUSAND dollars per person (up to 14thousand in cases) on a bus ticket and a coyote. Who has that kind of money and claim to be broke?
How come some people pay lawyers money, and take years, and get medical exams to come to the US, and others just show up, hacking and coughing, and are treated not only the same, but better?

Last I checked, the rule of law is applied equally. No special treatment. Not understanding this is the cause of the collapse of the Bar.

    CTL:

I think your emotions blinded you to the obvious. ICE is enforcing immigration law. That’s their mandate. It was so under Obama y”sh, and will remain so. Among their tasks is to deport those who have such orders from a court. That court already involved due process, so no one can challenge the legitimacy of the deportation order. The current “sweep” is to implement those orders. Interfering with that is to promote lawlessness. If someone disagrees with the law, then the thing to do is to change the law via Congress.

There are also other tasks that are the mandate of ICE. That includes to apprehend those who are here illegally. Those cases will be processed, and some will be dismissed, others will proceed. Have you ever been pulled over by a police officer for a traffic offense? Sometimes this results in a citation, which is a summons to appear in court, with an option to plead guilty and pay the fine. But you have the option of going to court to defend yourself. Other times, you interact with the officer, explain yourself, and can be dismissed with no consequence. That’s the rule of law. ICE can and should question anyone that it believes may be here illegally. In fact, any police officer should do so, if not for the liberal disease. And if you are okay, wonderful. If not, your luck ran out. That’s not collateral damage. That’s law enforcement doing its job. If your papers are not in order, you won’t get deported. You’ll get your day in court.

You have said three times “it’s not just Brown and Hispanics…” Are you implying that we’re ok with deporting “Browns and Hispanics” (your words) but not others? The vast majority want people here illegally to be deported, no matter their race and color. And those who are here legally to have equality and be productive citizens no matter their race and color. Your post is racist and attempting to incite. Stop. This is the law in every country. You can’t overstay visas. Is it unfair that those that ‘look illegal’ need to carry paper? Yes. But don’t blame the people doing their jobs, blame those whose actions have caused others to be suspicious.

Any idea as to how many Chareidi “shaluchim” from EY overstay their visas and should be locked up by ICE and dragged to the airport and deported?? Some have been found to engage in questionable fundraising practices which might violate local laws. Other Israelis simply arrive on tourist visas and never leave (as is the case CTL references). I’m not sure these individuals are a greater threat than Hispanics who come looking for work or to join families already here legally. Yidden can be notoriously selective in applying moral outrage (as long as other yidden are not involved).

That’s a middah tova that real frum yidden have. You, on the other hand, consistently seem to be more concerned with the well being of goyim than that of your own people. A “brotherhood of man” is not a Jewish idea, no matter how much the socialist, religious-left wants to pretend it is. If we didn’t put our own people first none of us would be here today.

And, by the way, the ganzer Jewish world (including seculars) is actually notorious for self-loathing. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you were only referring to religious Jews.

Yes. I do have concerns for the well-being of goyim but no more so than our own. A large number of yidden who disparately tried to immigrate to the U.S. both prior to and after WWII were able to get in through a wide range of ploys which involved forging documents, lying to the immigration teams and small numbers making their way across the border from Canada. Tens of thousands of individuals seeking to escape the predictable terror in Europe were unable to get in and were lost in the Shoah. While the U.S. cannot provide a haven to those fleeing violence and oppression from the entire world, yidden should be on the forefront of working towards some realistic framework for providing asylum to those arrriving at our borders fleeing violence at home. And BTW, the torah DOES speak to us directly on multiple occcasions about showing respect and compassion for ALL of hashem’s creations.

CTL, you are a sick sick person. You wrote “The purpose of this post is to correct the misconception that these ICE raids are solely aimed at brown skinned Hispanics.” Literally the only people who ever thought such a thing are you sick Democrats and rabid Trump-haters, who project your own racism on to Trump and Republicans, tell vicious lies, and then think we should be shocked or upset when they turn out to be false! No Trump supporter or Republican ever supposed the raids would be targeted by race, so we are neither surprised nor upset that they aren’t.

And are we really supposed to be upset that an Israeli who blew off a deportation order will now be sent home?

As for the Puerto Rican lady or your daughter, there was never any chance that they would be deported. The worst that could happen to them was the inconvenience of being held on suspicion for a few hours until the truth could be sorted out. Unfortunately that can happen to anyone; we could all be mistaken for some wanted person, or for a burglar, etc., and it might take a few hours to establish our innocence. It’s the price we pay for not hiring infallible telepathic policemen.

As for the Polish Jews whom Hitler deported, first of all they were legitimate German citizens, having been properly naturalized under German law at the time. That cannot happen here; US citizenship, once validly obtained, can never be revoked involuntarily The only way someone claiming to be a US citizen can be deported is if the government can prove in court that the claim was false and the person was never a citizen in the first place. Another problem with what Hitler did is that Poland did not recognize these people as citizens and did not admit them; the US does not ever deport someone who has nowhere to go.

How dare you question Ivanka Trump’s giyur, and R Shachter and R Lookstein who were on her beis din? And how dare you compare Trump, in any way, to Hitler or to the KKK, which was the terrorist wing of the Democratic Party?

I say we deport Holocaust deniers, including those individuals who create false comparisons between Trump, his administration and policies, and Hitler ym”sh and his genocidal project. It is anti-Semitic trope, and it demeans the kedoshim hy’d who were rounded up and crammed into cattle cars and taken to real concentration camps where they were either gassed and then cremated, or worked and starved to death and then cremated or buried in mass graves. And anyone who dislikes. disrespects, and demonizes the US should willingly trade places with the illegal aliens being trafficked across the border of this absolutely horrifically racist, misogynist, xenophobic country that millions of citizens from other countries are trying to enter.
