What would you be doing for Parnasa (other than nothing) if you were the same person, with the same brains, talents, background and resources, but still young and starting out, and why would you choose that field/career? Im addressing those who are working for atleast 5 years.

cutie pie, what makes you think deiyezooger is a FINANCIAL ADVISER, maybe he’s a Rosh Yeshiva, or similar, who would risk his job if he was found posting in the CR.

To get a real idea on this topic one should list what he currently does and what he’d want to do.

RONRSR says DENTIST. Is he currently a peditrician who finds it too hard to always be availabe for every Mommy who thinks their child might have TB because he has a daiper rash; or is he a cardiologist who has seen too many patients die (ch”v) or is he a musician who finds the music too loud at weddings; or maybe she is a at home mother with a husband a Rebbe who hasn’t gotten paid in three months and is finding it too difficult to cope on one (no) salary.

If you catch my point, it better to say, “Currently I am a garbage truck driver, but if I had to start all over again I’d love to be a microbiotic scientist working on sabatoging Iranian nuclear advancement of the Arts!”

    Currently- Long haul trucker.

If I could do it again- Speech therapist.

I would do what I’m doing now, but would have had a five year head start!

Namely, building up passive income through my network of affiliate websites.

In this economy the place to be is the health care industry, no recession there.

I’m a lawyer working in taxes. I like the field (which I never thought I would be in) but if I would have known where I would end up I would have gotten my accounting degree and saved $$$ on grad school.

To all those who wish they would have married rich, it reminds me of what my mother a”h used to say-

Me falt aran in a shmaltz grieb, ven de shmaltz rint aros, iz men in a greeb.

Im having a hard time transalating that into english. To summarize- when the “shmaltz” disappears, you’re left in a pit with no more “shmaltz”. The “shmaltz” doesnt always last forever.

My truest love is chazzanut, but there is no market for it int he Orthodox world. But if I could do it again, I would explore academic Jewish studies. I would have made a good professor and writer, I think. I love law, but at 41 my passions are elsewhere.

In addition to learning how to use spell check, you should take an English Language course. KNOWING how to spell properly will get you much further in life than using spell check.

You should know how to spell and use spell check with it.

As someone who as not yet embarked on a working career, I am watching this thread with great interest. Those of you who dislike your current field, what aspects of your careers do you dislike, and what advice can you give someone who is just starting out?

    deiyezooger:

Use a different browser; either Firefox or chrome. Both of them have built in spell check. Any words that are underlined in red are not recognized, and you can right click on it to see suggestions.

So, for example, in this post, “deiyezooger” is underlined red. There are no suggestions.

According to my job (which i am very happy with BH), I’m privy to know what the best going businesses are.

    Deiyesooger is right.

Pharmacutical companies, health care providers and financial services are the road to take!

    #729510

    Aishes Chayil, can you clarify?

    Pharmacutical companies:

Own pharmacutical companies or invest in them?

    Health care providers:

I imagine you mean doctors and nurses, anything else? I’ve heard that self-employed doctors are not doing that well because of malpractice insurance. Those who arent self employed dont do that well, period, and have huge student loans to repay. Many nurses cant find jobs.

    Financial services:

Accountants? I dont think so, many are out of work. Stock brokers, same. Financial planners, not that many very wealthy people these days.

    Am I missing something?

PBA’s advice is the best, but you can also write your post in a program with spell check (i.e. Microsoft Word) and then copy and paste it into the reply box. None of this works if you misspell with a word which exists; it’s much better to know how to smell. (sic)

    Ofcourse,

    Your missing alot!

Pharmacutical Companies pay their employees very well!. If you own one or invest in one, your probably just as well off, if not more.

By health care providers, I dont just mean Doctors and Nurses.

    I mean research companies.

    Finally re-Financial services,

I mean advisors, investment brokers are still very much afloat.

When the economy is good, people like to take risks. When its bad, people like to look our for their future. Maybe the level of business is lower in difficult times, but its still goes.

Of course -I know docs who make 7 figures and some who don’t make six. How much you make doesn’t reflect how good you are. My advice- Don’t go into the medical field for money, because if that’s the reason- a lot of times you’ll lose focus on patient care. If you end up killing a patient, you basically traded this world for the next! The only reason to practice medicine is because you care!

    Aishes Chayil, ok…

1-To own either a pharmaceutical company or health research company, wouldnt you need at least a doctorate, in addition to a million to invest??? Not something John Doe (or Yanky Klein, even a well educated Yanky Klein), can ever aspire to.

2-What degrees are needed for financial services? Im a matchmaker and all the guys with finance degrees are crying.

    #729515
    Aishes Chayil

    Ofcourse,

Forget about the owning part. But as an employee, yes ofcourse you need a doctorate.

    Re- F services,

Here s well you must have some sort qualifications. Good marketing is essential, and obviously product knowledge.

The threee basics are 40 per cent effort, 40 percent hard work and 20 per cent luck!
