I mentioned some time ago that I have serious concerns about search engines such as Google. Well, this news is a step in the right direction. We do have much to be grateful to our ‘cousins’ for, after all.

Islamic search engine ImHalal filters out potentially sinful material
Seven months in development, the search is available in 15 languages including Arabic, Chinese, Farsi and Turkish, as well as English (squeak note: what a relief – now we can be grateful that they annexed the UK). The company expects its largest audience to develop in the Middle East.

actually awhile ago a jewish one came out i remember not being too happy with it. i forgot its name but i remember them claiming that everytime you click sometype of orginizaton gets a penny(from google).

Wonder what happens when you enter say, “Islamic terrorism” or “Al-Qaeda” in this search engine. It probably brings you to some anti-Semitic site like Jew Watch.

Actually, I tried it. I entered Islamic Jihad terror and it gave me a 404 error message: “Item not found, ya quffar!”

I also tried it so I typed in Olam Hatorah and it actually brought up sites. But, then I typed in “pig” and the message said something about being a danger but if I want to continue to sites there was another button to click below!
Isnt there some sort of “koshernet” filter already out there?
Also, you CAN set yahoo or google filter level to be quite restrictive in what it shows, almost to an extreme sometimes. The Lycos search engine also allows you to set levels for search results.
What results are displayed on imhalal if one would search for “yeshiva” or “kosher food in winnipeg” or “shaitels in chicago”.

JMPhone – I keyed in MBD and got an error message 404. Message was: Ya quffar, we know you’re searching for Muhammad Be Damned!
Then I typed in Avraham Fried. Instead I got Ibrahim’s Halal Fried Chicken over in Jihadland on Coney Island Avenue.
So finally I tried Lipa Schmeltzer and got another 404: “Heibt af dane hentelach before we cut them off!”
ROTFL!!!

But the best was when I typed in “tzaddik” and it brought me results about Osama bin Laden on the first page and Yisroel Dovid Weiss on the second!

I actually tried that, just to see what would happen. It came back with what looked like legit links to articles.

But, then I typed in “pig”…
When I typed in “khinzeer” which is pig in Arabic I got George W Bush.
BTW the latest version asks you to check off Sunni or Shiite.
