Zohar says it is/will bring guyva to wear them out. And that’s what my Rabbeim emphasized to me in yeshiva.
There is an inyan to wear it outside and see them but there is also a kabalistic inyan to wear it under your clothes (that explains Chabad) so thats why many chasidim are wearing a vest so its somewhat in between.
In. But if I was yeshiva age now, they would be out. (gotta go with the flow)
