I’m sure most of you are familiar with the major “glitch” Facebook had this week on the stock market, people are furious, burning and upset, people have lost millions of dollars in the misled fb IPO’s / shares.

What happened? how did this happen in such a sophisticated era?

If that wasn’t enough, news reports suggested past few days, that in the “general population” in the USA, 30-90% of divorce paperwork mention Facebook in it.. Which means that out of those americans who did decide to tie the knot and get married, such a big percent lost their marriage (in full or in part) because of facebook!

Did anyone get to think abou it? is the timing of both such negative occurances to this filth and smut site just plain “coincinence”? or, may there be a connection between the major breakthrough “kinus klal yisroel” the and the woes of Facebook? the bit of hishtadlus letova, the thousands of ppl gathered to improve ourselves in the cyber world, the thousands that have installed filters or kicked out the internet devil from the house and so forth was the ‘mekadesh atzmoh m’at mil’matah”..

Did it ever occur to anyone that besides the glitch fb had, the asifa was inspired by the two chasidishe women who went astray recently? Feldman and that other woman?

You say there was a breakthrough… tell me honestly, how many people do you think will really change their internet habits because of the asifa?

Why are you using such strong words to describe Facebook? Yes, if you have no self control which clearly SO many frum men do not have, then Facebook can be dangerous. If you use it with caution like I do, and do not accept requests from people you don’t know or people that you know will have inappropriate images, it is not as bad as some people make it out to be.

    Feif Un,

In your peer group, likely not many.

In mine, plenty (I’m helping two friends of mine install filters, and another friend of mine knows two people who have already gotten rid of their web access).

I saw lots of people using their smartphones during the speeches at the Asifa during the yiddish speeches especially.

And lots of people have seen that and commented on it.

These were not Feif un’s peers, they were your peers

I know many people that have changed their internet habits! Besides like R’ Wachsman said (to paraphrase) … Even if we lost the older generation already, which i think we didn’t. Let’s not lose the next generation like the Bubbys withe TVs at home etc.

I thought that was a great point!

Some people have overactive imaginations. “misled” is the appropriate word. The brokerage that brought FB to the public was discussing downgrading the stock PRIOR to the IPO. This was all last week, prior to any Asifa. Securities fraud, and if not outright fraud, shady business, has been around long before the internet and facebook.

Everything is directed from above. It is no coincidence that facebook’s IPO flopped within days of the Asifa.

    MorahRach says:

“…Why are you using such strong words to describe Facebook? Yes, if you have no self control which clearly SO many frum men do not have, then Facebook can be dangerous”…

I was referring to news reports in the national media, their statistics are not based on FRUM men, its based on ALL men and WOMEN throughout the US, and I believe most of them also felt they have control on themselves (after all u claim that only frum men don’t have control..) and thos was the shocking results, yes this “clean” site resulted in cheatings affairs and marriage breakups, face it.

Business owners called their IT managers and computer programmers and technicians to order filters on their computers while sitting on the bleechers at the asifa, I have witnessed one, he was talking about dozens of computers in his office!

The Ichud hakehilos has set up stations in many towns and cities to install filters at no charge, the masses of people and the long lines are beyond all expectations.

    Mi k’amcho yisroel!

When on earth did I say only frum men have no self control? I was not talking about the divorce rate I was referring to your choice words filth and smut. I don’t care what the rest of the world does. Clearly with the Asifa, and many stories that I have heard nebach of married FRUM men meeting women on Craigslist and looking at the wrong things on the Internet, there are a lot of frum men who have little to no self control. That needs to be addressed, don’t blame Facebook and call it smut when it’s not of used properly as I stated above in my post.

    30-90%?

Um… where did you get your numbers? Because that doesn’t make sense, unless someone decided to be lazy.

    ZD,

I didn’t say that the internet usage in my peer group was in order; if it was, nobody would need to make any changes! I said that the people in my peer group are more likely to make those changes.

As an aside, smartphones can have their browsers removed, locked, disabled, or filtered (although I’m sure some of those you saw were none of the above).

MorahRach, again, the report quotes facebook as the result in full or in part for affairs and marriage breakups, so u cam call it a clean site, a beautiful site, whatever, the fact that this is the tool and promotion to all dirt and filth gives it the well deserved name ‘smut site’.

writersoul, you can google it, it was in the headlines this week, the NYC group determined its about 30%, and a Florida group said its about 90%.

“You say there was a breakthrough… tell me honestly, how many people do you think will really change their internet habits because of the asifa?”

I, for one, wasn’t even at the asifa but I was inspired to have long-overdue filters put on my computers.

My wife and I have also decided to have one day a week completely free of internet. I hope that many others make changes as well.

Why pay for a smart phone then just get a kosher phone. What is the point of paying for Internet and the elevated price of an iPhone if you do not plan to use it.

@Guter yid thats a silly statistic – i am sure the cell phone is involved in 99.9% in full or in part for affairs and marriage breakups so lets all ban cell phones

You are reading this incorrectly. “Mentioning” Facebook in divorce paperwork does not mean “cause of divorce.”

I have yet to see any one mention 90%. Can you tell me when you saw that figure?

Takamamash, if you google it you’ll find it in a second, it was reported in Huffington Post, wtsp/news 10, as well as many othe news & blog sites.

1 quote; “A St. Petersburg attorney says Facebook and social media are used in 90 percent of her divorce cases”.

    said Carin Constantine.

jbaldy22, don’t forget about those thousands that are indeed involved in facebook affairs and the spouses are unaware of it, or just don’t mention it..

Guter yid, again, you are misreading what was written.

A St. Petersburg attorney says Facebook and social media are used in 90 percent of her divorce cases.

She did not say Facebook caused 90% of divorces. She said Facebook is used, as evidence, in 90% of her divorce cases.

In fact, if you continue down the article, you’ll see the following:

A recent survey by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers found that Facebook is cited in one in five divorces in the United States.

That’s only 20% in a national survey. Again, the article uses the word cited, not caused. Read the article more carefully to distinguish what she’s actually saying. Nowhere does she state that Facebook is the cause of 90% of divorces.

Ultimately, what you wrote is incorrect:

Which means that out of those americans who did decide to tie the knot and get married, such a big percent lost their marriage (in full or in part) because of facebook!

You’re missing the point, whether it’s 20 percent or 90 percent, whether thousands of ppl manage to hide their facebook activity from their spouses.

Botoom line I wanted to bring out is, that the fact that Facebook had such losses and had so much negative coverage just in the past week, right after the massive kiddush hashem asifa against tummah and filth, gives place for a thought that this is some wink from shomayim right after the asifa.
