How come America is has more cases than any other country in the world? Is America not doing enough?
America is a bigger country.
China and Iran have much higher numbers than they’re officially reporting.
What is America doing? I say it sarcastically since every city and every state is doing something different. You may be shut down, but in other places, its business as usual, or just quasi-restrictions. And those from your shut down city, and travel freely to those that aren’t shutdown and vice versa. And compared with the rest of the world? I don’t think America as a whole is doing much. It just depends on your mayor or governor.
No, we don’t do enough tests. Rules are not being enforced as in Israel. There is still a shortage in P.P.E. (protective personal equipment) and ventilators.

The lack of tests, the lack of personal protective equipment for health care workers, the lack of ventilators, the unwillingness to shut down activity until this has passed, he insistence by some people (including far too many supposedly frum Jews) to follow proper precautions, and the incompetence and venality of the President of the US has led to this.
We could have been like South Korea but we are about to be like Italy.

I would like to ask two questions.
1- Does anyone actually believe the mishna in Pirkei Avos “דֶּבֶר בָּא לָעוֹלָם עַל מִיתוֹת הָאֲמוּרוֹת בַּתּוֹרָה שֶׁלֹּא נִמְסְרוּ לְבֵית דִּין”
“Pestilence comes to the world for death penalties according to the Torah, but which but are not administered by Bais Din” ?
2- The only explicit death penalty I can find that Hashem says He specifically will administer is this:
כָּל־אַלְמָנָ֥ה וְיָת֖וֹם לֹ֥א תְעַנּֽוּן׃
You shall not ill-treat any widow or orphan.
אִם־עַנֵּ֥ה תְעַנֶּ֖ה אֹת֑וֹ כִּ֣י אִם־צָעֹ֤ק יִצְעַק֙ אֵלַ֔י שָׁמֹ֥עַ אֶשְׁמַ֖ע צַעֲקָתֽוֹ׃
If you do mistreat them, I will heed their outcry as soon as they cry out to Me,
וְחָרָ֣ה אַפִּ֔י וְהָרַגְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם בֶּחָ֑רֶב וְהָי֤וּ נְשֵׁיכֶם֙ אַלְמָנ֔וֹת וּבְנֵיכֶ֖ם יְתֹמִֽים׃

Trump is going to be blamed no matter what. Only time will tell. New York tri-state area is hit hard with this epidemic and because of how they treated the president can not expect more from the federal government.There have been some successful treatment but at this stage the infection rate will continue to rise.Trump will win if the US is able to contain the virus.
Reb Eliezer, there’s no doubt that both China and Iran are lying about their numbers by many magnitudes.
South Korea had experience dealing with MERS, so they were far smarter about this, and had tracking systems and stricter anti-infection hospital protocols in place already. We didn’t, but the main bungle was lack of testing for bureaucratic and competency reasons. And the biggest idiocy was assuming there was no spread because there were no positives yet… and telling the masses that all is okay and to go about their business.
That message for too long was from Trump down to de Blasio.
The second major bungle was lack of masks and therefore wrong advice to the masses to not wear them. I’d like to see Trump and his aides give a press conference wearing one, to show Americans that this is the temporary new normal.
(Incidentally, women in Heimish communities are more reluctant to wear masks and gloves while grocery shopping, as esthetics are more important to them. So lehavdil just like men are taught to Daven with minyan and many have trouble letting go, women are conditioned to always make sure they look good and are having trouble with this. Just my two cents, but we need a multi-pronged strategy in our own neighborhoods to stop the spread.)
