Litvaks think every moment not learning is batalah. Chassidim are too maikel. If I had a choice which one should I choose?

Why don’t you make your own sect? You could be machmir AND never learn
    Call it balaganish

This is a very very silly question. What you should be is an Oved Hashem. All the rest is nahrishkeit.

“Chassidim are too maikel”where do you get this from?
chasidim are makpid in certain areas
i once heard somone say chasidim are makpid what goes in their mouth litvaks are makpid on what comes out
    of their mouth.

The question is what comes first Torah or avodah. The Litvish hold that Torah brings to avodah whereas the chassish hold that avodah betaharah brings to the burn to learn Torah. The best is to be a chassidish litvak which instills the burning for Torah.

YoyBochur; Apparently you don’t have a choice. But you do have a choice whether to spend your spare time whipping up a storm in the YW coffee room.

Someone came to a litvishe gadol telling him, I don’t have time to learn. He told him to learn mussar and then you will find time.

    Why now Oberlander or Yekkish?

Litvaks and Chassidim aren’t the only two games in town among Askenazim.

    #1802945

Yes please go back to learning and there is no better mitzvah than this

What do you call a non Chassid?

Some people use the term Litvak. However, that leaves something to be desired, as there are Chassidim that are of Litvak roots. Chassidic groups such as Karlin, Slonim, and Lubavitch, are of such background. And there are misnagdim that are of non Litvish background as well. On the other hand, some prefer it, as it sounds sort of neutral, non-threatening, and non confrontational. It just means that the person comes from Lita, where the standard form of Judaism was not Chassidic. Some people use Litvish instead of Litvak, Litvish meaning that they follow the way of Lita, even if not from there or that background.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, stated that there are no Misnagdim today, just ניט חסידים . What he meant with that claim was that some non Chassidim today don’t really actively oppose Chassidism, or know why they are not part of it. They just know that that is not their background.

Although that is incorrect (Misnagdim still exist and they cannot be wished away, even if a Chassid would like to imagine that they don’t exist), there is something to that.

The last term, Misnaged, clearly indicates that a person is opposed to Chassidism.

    #1802963

Some of those types otherwise affiliate with the Litvishe-Yeshivishe world, but, maybe inject some variety into their lives perhaps they are on a too narrow contemporary Litvishe spiritual diet

Moshiach will be a Misnaged. Why? Because he will come and say kaddish, and he will not say ויצמח פורקניה ויקרב משיחיה (because if Moshiach has already arrived, it will be out of place, anachronistic, to say it). So that proves he is a Litvak, and not a Chassid

that way you only have to wait 3 hours after meat, you can eat kitnyos during pesach and and never sa y tachanun

For sure to be Chassidish. Would you rather serve Hashem out of love or fear? Would you rather dance on shabbos or sing slow durge, slow songs? Would you rather look like a goy or a jew? Be Chassidish it is the best way to be a happy Jew.

About what the lubavitcher rebbe said that today there aren’t any misnagdim, even those opposed to chassidim aren’t opposed for the same reason they used to be, just an example is asking berachos from a tzaddik, the litvish today do, that was one if the things misnagsdim opposed, he meant that there aren’t anymore real misnagdim

“…out of love or fear? ”

    Ironic isn’t it
other religions and other denominations make Similar about us

Don’t mistake soberness for what you think it is
the French Ernest renan and the British Carlisle both stated
in 19th century that religious jews seem to lack of sense of humour

“Would you rather dance on shabbos or sing slow durge, slow songs?”
    אז ימלא שחוק פינו
    הזורעים בדמעה ברינה יקצורו

“Would you rather look like a goy or a jew?”

    what is preferable
stressing externals or stressing real substantial internal growth
even assuming this dubious claim has basis

The chassidish pronounciation iof ee over oo is a problem because it does not distinguish between male and female. How does a chassidish cow go? mee mee instead of moo moo.

It says in Tehilim כי גמר חסיד The Szombathelyi Rav, Rav Katz ztz’l said that the Chasidim believe that they need no improvement, they are complete, once they are a chasid but the opposite needs to be true/ They are more scrutinized being a chasid.

Reb Eliezer shlita: That isn’t a “chasidish pronunciation”; it is the same pronunciation used by the Chasam Sofer and other Oberlander Yidden. And that havara predates the existence of the chasidim,

Joseph, what you saying is not true. My rebbe the previous Matersdorfer Rav ztz’l had a pronounciation a hungarian u with dots on top. I don’t think it exists in english for male and ee for female. It exists in german as uber, over.

    Joseph is correct.

In Chasan sofer they taught what you would call “chasidshe havarah” with the exception of tzeiri that was pronounced as in play not as in high

The Maosdorfer Rav z”l pronounced it this way too ((i’m reffering to Rav Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld z”l not his father z”l)

The sugya of nason hee veamor hee was very confusing

Chasan Sofer became chassidish. The Viener Rav,. Rav Lebovits, ztz’l also my rebbe, pronounded it as ee chassidish. The yeshiva also turned chassidish. You are right . It ia confusing. It proves there should be a difference, so I say it like the german uber. No mistake is made in laining by the chassidim. The litvishe say oo.
I also learned by Rav Simcha Bunim ztz’l but I don’t remember his pronunciatiion.

to the questioner: If you don’t mind me playing the psychologist,
You don’t enjoy learning, and that is the real issue, nothing to do with being chasidish or not. Take a step down from your pride, and ask someone who you look up to, to explain you HOW to enjoy learning, namely how to learing in a way that stimulates you.

    sorry for the hijack post.

Joseph: the gemoro in perek chelek sanhedrin teach that when mashiach come all disabilities/illnesses – even the minor ones – will be removed from those who arise. It is a safe assumption that the maladies that befall all of us as we get older will also be removed. So is it really emes what you say?

Once the beis hamikdash has been rebuilt after z’man moishiach, which nusach will the Cohen Gadol use during the avodah/? Will the Levi’im respond Amen or UUUMEIIINE? These are momentous questions which need to be resolved.

Moshiach will be a Misnaged. Why?
Because if he’s a chossid then the misnagdim won’t accept him but if he’s a misnaged the chassidim will still accept him as long as he finally comes

Yoel, something in your question is trolling. You didn’t come here to find out if you should be the serious learner or serious maikeler. Seems you came to bring something else to the table. Either way, BE A GOOD JEW! BE NICE TO OTHERS AND SEEK TO HELP OUT THOSE IN NEED! Then you will be a chassid, litvak, simple man or whatever you wanna be.
