July 19, 2012 8:53 pm at 8:53 pm #1191064RebRYMemberI don’t if that is Kosher but there are brands of rum that have an OU. I have been searching for a brand of rum that has a Heimisher hechser and have not yet found. Spirits of Solomon does not make. If any one knows of a brand of with a heimisher hechser please let me know my wife wants to make rum cake.

Approved: Bacardi (unfl avored); Cruzan (unflavored – light and dark); Don Q*; Iceberg*; Jumbi; Vizcaya
Certified: Iceberg*, Jumbi (flavored)*

If she wants to make a rum cake & has no rum, she can substitute vodka, same amount as rum in the recipe, and a teaspoon (or a teaspoon and a half for stronger flavor) of good quality rum flavoring.

November 8, 2016 6:23 pm at 6:23 pm #1191070SpunkMemberDoes anyone know if Southern Comfort is kosher?
November 8, 2016 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #1191071zahavasdadParticipantOnly if it comes from the UK, Not the American Southern Comfort.
Even when you get it in Israel, they sell both kinds there, you need to only get the British version
November 8, 2016 9:47 pm at 9:47 pm #1191072iacisrmmaParticipantThe Star-K has a list of drinks. Southern Comfort is listed as “not approved”.
November 8, 2016 9:50 pm at 9:50 pm #1191073Abba_SParticipantIt depends where it comes from USA no hechsher problematic. Ireland has a hechsher but it’s dairy, Belgium & Israel have Hachseruimand are pareve.

Maybe you’re asking because you were at the liquor store and they had a good machir deal?
Or you are in Malibu and want to do as Malibu’s do?
…Or a plethora of other reasons… curious
