There is a very fitting mishneh from pirkei Avot that I think describes how I feel about the 25,000 est soldiers that died so that I could walk freely in the beloved garden of G-d. That Mishneh is Perek 2 Mishneh 10 that states Rabbi Yochanan Ben Zackai had 5 students and then proceeds to mention their names wherupon the mishneh ends. Quoting from the Pirkei Avot book that is advertised here, no one will be able to to say what color hair these 5 students of Rabbi Yochanan had. Nor will anyone be able to tell which student was tall or short. All the Mishneh states is their names and that they were students of rabbi Yochanan Ben Zackai. In the same manner when the tv goes blank on veterens day and all you see is the names of al the fallen I wonder exactly who was this soldier? What did he or she look like? What did he or she like doing in their free time etc. In other words EVERYONE of these soldiers was a human being that died so that I could actually live in the beloved garden of G-d.
