Does anyone know where to find things for jewish karaoke?

It is a place (usually a bar or restaurant) where people can get up to sing publicly. There is a machine that plays the music without the lyrics, from popular songs, and the patron can read the lyrics off a teleprompter and sing along. It is that person’s chance to perform in public. I have never been to something like that, but I have seen it in the media. I have never heard of a Jewish Karaoke place though, and certainly if there is one, it is unlikely to be for frum people, I would imagine.

I am not looking for a place to go do it. They have cds that you can just put on to do at home.

actually, my impression was that ‘karaoke” refers to a screen that actually gives yo uthe words of a song and the person then tries to sing it to the music (usually a recording). I would think that there is no need for a jewish “karaoke” as the lyrics (words) of jewish are well known, as they are mostly taken from the tefillos. In secular songs, they are composed anew and hence, the singer may not know them.

ROB, I think you are more correct than I – my bad. I was actually describing a karaoke bar, which is what most people seem to mean when they say “karaoke.”

punges224- there are loads of CD’s that only have instrumental music of popular songs- such as shlomo carlebach’s songs and others ! try your nearest seforim store or try on line retailers (eichlers and tuvias are just two names)

Does anyone know of music that is radio/nonjewish songs that are “turned jewish”? I think that this is a good tool for kiruv for certain individuals.
