What are your thoughts on the jewish movie industry.
And ul probably ask, What jewish music industry?
my thoughts are that due to the fact that the world is becoming a lot more digital and 95% of people i know (i could be wrong), watch movies of some kind be it PG animation to hollywood stupidity (which is losing whatever morales they thought they had)..
i think in the next 5 years theres gonna
be a big demand for professional jewish themed (clean) movies.
What r ur thoughts?
and what jewish movies have u seen that u thought were very good?
April 18, 2012 11:34 pm at 11:34 pm #898329writersoulParticipantI saw Ushpizin when I was ten or eleven (after a lot of parental begging) and it was REALLY good. The actors were FANTASTIC. I don’t think this is what you had in mind, but I’m just putting it out there.
April 19, 2012 1:29 am at 1:29 am #898330spectrumParticipantno no no.
jewish movies are plain wrong . this concept of “going out with a friend to the movies” is as goyish as is comes regardless of the content of the movie. it is straight up BECHOKSEYHEM LO SEILEICHU and rashi there even says that the posuk is refering to going to theaters like the goyim and places of sports and the likes.
now if your question is regarding watching a jewish movie in your house at your own screen, this is already depends on your hashkafa of these things. but the latter is a posuk, unargueable

April 19, 2012 1:50 am at 1:50 am #898332BYbychoiceMemberI dont think they mean in a theater! I mean if non jews saw it then it would cause problems, like ushpizan was a fantstic concepts and great actors but i think it gave of some bad impressions! I mean really other then by plays there really is nothing when you can just sit wacth and be ammused! Not saying anything is wrong with that, but…

April 19, 2012 2:09 am at 2:09 am #898334shtiky shloMemberpeople know there’s nothing wrong with the movies and goyim won’t give it a seconed glance ( or a first one)
April 19, 2012 2:12 am at 2:12 am #898335mybrotherMemberUshpizin was a Great Movie, Amazing actors good story, and i don’t think it made bad Impressions i think it actually brings judiasm into a light where a non jew can understand. it shows meaning behind the customs we do even if they don’t understand them.

April 19, 2012 2:12 pm at 2:12 pm #898342akupermaParticipantDo you mean the handful of commercially produced movies produced by groups that include frum Jews, such as “Ushpizin”, “Time of Favor” (in Hebrew, Ha-hesder), or Arranged? Are you discussing some “movies” that are produced within the Hareidi community, with all male casts, that in the past have been distributed in non-conventional ways, often on CDs. Are you asking about Jewish related subject in regular movies aimed at goyim?
April 19, 2012 2:17 pm at 2:17 pm #898343cherrybimParticipant“and rashi there even says that the posuk is refering to going to theaters like the goyim and places of sports and the likes.”
“Going to the Theater is Assur ONLY because its IN PUBLIC”
If that were the way we paskin today, we would have to ban many Jewish frum concerts and events which are held in theaters and sporting arenas; i.e., siyum hashas, chazanus concerts, YBC, MBC, graduation ceremonies, etc.
April 19, 2012 4:01 pm at 4:01 pm #898344mybrotherMemberDoes Anyone Here Not have any (frum) Friends and their families that watch movies?
i highly doubt it, if u don’t know, its probably cuz they don’t want u to know
that being said
How can we help out the situation?, cuz being “assur” is not working
what can be wrong with very clean very entertaining (don’t call them kosher or jewish) films
that are catered towards the from world

Who said we dont pasken like that? Yes maybe it is assur to go to a jewish concert,
im not paskening but why is it not in the geder of the rashi quoted eirlier?
lesschumras;
you cannot be more wrong. it all depends on the childs outlook that was taught to him by his parents and rabbeim on why you cannot go to theaters and the likes.(which is realy a subject on its own.)

October 2, 2012 10:19 am at 10:19 am #898348foxoutsidetheboxMember“The Chosen” is surprisingly good. I’ve never seen Frumkeit prtrayed even closely in a film, except “The Chosen”.
October 3, 2012 1:40 am at 1:40 am #898349MediumThinkerMemberSpectrum, according to your interpretation of Rashi it would be assur to go to the internet asifah or the Siyum Hashas. They were held in “places of sports”.
October 3, 2012 3:51 am at 3:51 am #898350Loyal JewParticipantSee Da’as Zkeinim on that Rashi. It refers to places of mischakim. Tradition and sources since the Greeks connect this with sports too.
October 3, 2012 9:51 am at 9:51 am #898351NaftushMember“Spectrum” shouts: IN ORTHODOX JUDAISM WE DO NOT COMPROMISE ON OUR VALUES. Well, almost every page of halacha starts with centered text that explains a value. It continues with notes and commentaries that posit contrasting or interfering values. It ends with … compromises — like the compromises that Spectrum made in order to have his/her Internet connection, to post to the CR on Hol Hamo’oed, etc.
