No, Chicago is “in town”, because it is part of the New york metropolitan area.

There’s a nerd river surrounding all of Chicago. Anyone who enters must pass it. IT ingrains all Windy City dwellers with nerdiness

Please don’t fall into this. You have no reason to defend Chicagoans. They’re fine people

    I don’t understand.

Why shouldn’t FL613 defend them if they are fine people?

    #865631

whoa, whoa, whoa! stop right there! ya know there are ppl on this site from chicago (i’m one of them and i’m proud of it!). lets back track. first of all: if you live out of chicago, then chicago is out of town. just like to us here in chicago NY is out of town- believe it or not! to us NY is out of town! (sorry, are you feeling a little put down? didn’t mean to cause you NYers any undue shame)

second of all, with this nerdy bit- watch what you say. hilchos lashon hara- even if its a joke, and even if its not about a specific person, but rather a group of ppl, its lashon hara.

i would like to say that FL613 is right (thank you, FL!) chicagoans are very warm and friendly ppl full of chesed at all times. we are open minded, welcoming ppl with a true love of torah, and as a side point we’re not (for the most part- i cant say this about every single person, but u’ll find it anywhere) we are NOT pressured to be like everyone else. there is less competition to try to be better than the next person and there is less of needing every new stupid thing that comes out. like i said, it’s not everyone, but most. I LOVE CHICAGO! my friends from OOT know that i never stop talking about how much i love chicago. its a really nice place! if you haven’t been here yet, you gotta come!

the best science museum is there – so if it’s a matter of going to chicago – it’s worth it just for that; but don’t go if you’re a cohen (to the museum, i mean; but can still go to chicago). 😉

btw – there are a lot of NYers living in chicago. i am one of them. growing up in ny, i used to think ny was the ONLY place for frum ppl. well guess what? it’s not true.

when i got engaged, my boss at the time asked me if i’m really going to live in such a hick town as chicago!!!

Chicago is such a great city! There are so many different types of people that live in Chicago. And there are sooo many NYers and Lakewooders who have decided to move to Chicago because of the kollels Chicago has. Chicago has a special midwest warmth, but also the excitement of NY as well. And as someone correctly said before, Chicago is the next intown city after NY. Whenever any NYers come to Chicago, they are surprised how with it and un-nerdy Chicago really is. Its an awesome city!!!!!

Are you trying to tell me that Chicago is like the city that never sleeps?

    #865641

It really is scary just how twisted peoples’ minds can actually get when not trained by a competent teacher.

To think how many poor lost souls still think in 5771 that cities outside of NY might not be called “out of town”. Rachmana L’tzlan.

I can only hope that in shamayim they will have a din of tinok she’nishbah. ??? ????? ??? ????. We need moshaich already.

To the grandmaster: Who is getting a better deal? We, the Chicagoans, that traded Daley for Rahm, or you members of the United States, that traded Rahm, as the chief of staff in the White House, for William Daley, Dah Mayor’s brother?!?

They brought in Eitan and Shlomo Katz who are a great example of achdus right there. Two brothers who have very different derachim in life but have so much respect for each other. Anyhow, they led davening in 4 different shuls over shabbos; on fri night, the ones they weren’t at didn’t have minyan so that everyone would go be together; an oneg they were at where many rabbanim of the shuls gave divrei torah and chizuk about achdus; and there were also shiurim from certain two Rabbanim which many people came to also; to top it all off as a bounus, there was talk/shiur from Rav Yona Metzger chief rabbi of E”Y at shalosh seudos attended by hundreds; it was truly incredible. Then to keep it all going, there was an initiative to make a siyum on Nach and Seder Moed collectively by members of all the shuls which just happened last week
