In my opinion, it seems like there is so much of a push to raise money, have chinese auctions, have letters from Gedolim, super summer camps, for both Kiruv/”Off the Derech” institutes. Chas V’esholom to take anything away from them, it is definitely a wothwhile cause, but what about the mainstream Yesivos, there are parents struggiling to make ends meet, and some have even gotten letters from certain Mosdos that state ” since you could not pay the tuition for your child, we can not accept them back for the next school year”. ” WHERE IS THE FULL PAGE AD FOR THAT MATZAV? WHERE IS THE BIG CHINESE AUCTION TO RAISE MONEY FOR THAT ISSUE? Let’s have a fundraiser for different yeshiavs/ Bais Yaakov’s to raise outside money to make sure the rabbaim /teachers get paid on time and relive some of the financial stress form some struggling parents!!! From what I’ve seen, these various other Kiruv/ off the derech Mosdos seem to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure that these children receive an education as well as a beautiful summer experience. Why cant this be done in our own backyards!! Do we need to offer prizes and special berochos from various Gedolim!! Is that what it takes!!! Any feedback or ideas about this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Nobody ever stopped them. As a frum person who would have gone to a kiruv school if there was one in my area and now is considered a bais yaakov girl, and who plans on sending her children to mainstream schools, I would think its ok.
The thing is, yeshiva is considered a for-profit venture. These people are paying tuition, and the whole point of these kiruv yeshivos is that the parents won’t have to or can pay less. You’re getting tuition money- why should I help you?
So then the yeshivos make dinners, which are only useful if the parent body is already wealthy, while if it was it probably wouldn’t really need the dinner quite so much.
And thus, you end up with the yeshivos struggling to break even.
When it comes to mainstream yeshivas, my responsibility was first to my children’s yeshiva and now my grandchildren. Before I give to another yeshiva, I want to see audited statements first.
They can have the bochurim run purim carnivals to benefit specific programs in the yeshiva, say- the resource room, or smartboards. If you raise money for these individual items, then you don’t have to worry about people saying “why are you raising money for tuition?”

To my knowledge there is one well known kiruv organization called Oorah that is good at raising money. As far as I know most others are in debt. In fact I spoke to the head of one famous kiruv organization that offers a free online service of ask the Rabbi any question. This organization is about half a million dollars in DEBT. Besides for Oorah maybe Aish Hatorah may be the only other organization that is good at raising money but then they have huge overhead so I don’t know where they stand. The head of the organization that I spoke with told me that people just don’t give to kiruv its really hard to get the big checks for a kiruv organization. Yeshivas get the 5 digit and sometimes 6 digit checks. Kiruv orgs don’t.
