In general, Dell computers are a bit better than similarly priced Compaqs or HPs. What is your price range? Any other specifications that you want? Is refurbished okay with you?

Don’t buy one. Laptops can access wireless networks, which most likely don’t have a filter installed, and can lead to you seeing inappropriate web pages. It’s only a matter of time until the Gedolim ban laptops. Don’t waste money on it now, as it won’t last.

You should avoid laptops at all costs. with a desktop its in a public location in the house and you will have to always look over your shoulder. with a laptop you will be taking it into private places, and most people in this forum would agree that you will eventually succumb to evil things.

I didnt see Feif Un’s comment and I would like to state for the record that I was being sarcastic. I am typing this on my own laptop. (and in a library – ???? ???????? [sorry, cant type ayins])

Its a Dell XPS M1330. Its a great computer. Dell has laptops in the $800’s and you they hae the best customer service.

IIRC, myshadow is a girl and much less likely to succumb to evil things on the internet[if you understand what I mean]. Also, a desktop can be in a private place too (like a bedroom or whatnot).

There are many good reasons to get a laptop – including needing portability for school. I assume myshadow is in that age bracket.

Myshadow – do you need the laptop just for typing up reports and stuff? Surfing the web? If so, you don’t need anything fancy at all. You can probably get a laptop for around $500 then. Although, for the same price, a desktop gives you much more value.

they have these really asmall ones that are about 9″ and are under $400

but if your not worried about price than apple is probably your best bet…their customer service cant be beat and you are less likly to get viruses as there are very few viruses out there for macs

feif un: i hope your not serious!!!!!!

    A suggestion:

This is a 530 dollar (500 dollars after rebate) Compaq. Looks like it is one of the better performing laptops in its price range. Decent screen resolution, processor (dual core), and RAM. Good hard drive size. 2 hour battery life. 3 USB ports and a memory card reader. Comes with Windows Vista.

However, it is a little on the big side – 6.6 lbs with a 15.6 inch screen. If your main concern is portability, you might want to sacrifice performance and quality for smaller size.

True Azi, but the level of depraved women is generally less than men. And I would say Orthodox women even less so…

A comparable Dell would be the Inspiron 1525. It’s 600 dollars on the Dell website, compared to 500 on Amazon for the Compaq. It has a bit more RAM (3GB) and a bigger hard drive. However, it has a worse graphics card which may cause problems when running Vista.

There is a similar Acer laptop for 550 dollars, but it also has an inferior graphics card.

The Compaq’s hard drive is also pretty big, so that shouldn’t be a factor. Also, the 2 GB DDR2 memory on the Compaq should be adequate for running Vista. If you want more, you can always buy extra memory and install it yourself. An extra 2 GB of memory would only cost about 20 dollars.

I would probably go with the Compaq in this case.

Right now I’m on a dell laptop and I really like it! I got it in September for $700. It was really $1000 but they were running a special for the first 100 people that bought compters for the new school year. I was #74. There was also $100 rebate. I suggest that if you’re not in a rsh for a new computer you should wait for good sales- I heard they’re gonna have good ones in early March.

I also recommend Dell because they have really awesome service. If anything breaks they will almost always fox it on the phone (and they have really nice representatives) if they can’t fox it they will send a repairman THE NEXT DAY! I have my computer for like 5 months- honestly I’m pretty rough with it- but they replaced the hard drive twice and the motherboard and fixed my computer 100s of times all free of charge!

myshadow -you can go to best buy and get-if they still have it – a $200.00 laptop- which runs very well.Howvever you have to download all programs onto your laptop -microsoft word, publisher ect..

I would want to get the blackberry but then my cell phone plan payments will sky rocket.

Does anyone know anything about the verizon phone dare and verizon voyager-do they have good service, do they break easily…? are there better phones out there?
