If we can impeach a president after leaving office than Washingtion should have been impeached for owning slaves. He overlooks the fact that slavery was permitted in 13 states, as indicated in Wiki, when he was president, whereas Trump created a insurrection when president which is treasoness according to Professor Tribe.

The entire affair is a joke, and he is treating it with the respect it reserves. In an insurrection, one raises an armed force and seizes the government. One doesn’t prance around half naked with an animal skin and a wooden stick. Absent evidence showing Trump discussing use of armed force to seize the government, and also arranging with the significant garrisons stationed in or near Washington (one only a few blocks away) to cooperate, all that the Democrats have shown is that Trump, at worse, encouraged a lawful and constitutionally protected demonstration to get disorderly.

The part I don’t get Is he wasn’t impeached before leaving office . He was impeached (for the 2nd time) on Jan 13, he left office on Jan 20 (at noon) , he was impeached before leaving office, period.

(Though I do think the impeachment is silly, a better idea would have been censure they probably wouldve had a few decent Republicans (yes there are some) joining )

“Trump, at worse, encouraged a lawful and constitutionally protected demonstration to get disorderly..”
And as we approach Purim, (which certain CR posters have apparently begun to celebrate 2 weeks early) we have to remember that Haman was engaging in protected speech when he argued to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the yidden—young and old, women and children—and steal their possessions on 13 Adar. In reality, he was only engaged in political hyperbole and was a true ohev yisroel.

Health, what happened in the Capitol, people dying, is not funy and people encouraging it need to be accountable because it can happen in the future.

Bad comparison. We don’t celebrate Purim because of his speech, we celebrate because he had a plan in place for total annihilation and it backfired.

    >what happened in the Capitol, people dying, is not funny and people encouraging it need to be accountable because it can happen in the future.<

I think we all agree on that, however Trump never encouraged it and in fact condemned it

If there are no consequences then this was only a trial run by trump and his supporters.

The next time they will be better prepared and will succeed.

There is a historical parallel to such a situation.

Don’t make this a Capital Crime.
Not one person was killed because of it. Just the poor lady who happened to climb through a window.
If she was Black – there would be more riots than they had for G. Floyd.
And they just came out that Sitnick was Not a murder. They think his death was natural.

From the time Trump believed that he won the election, he encouraged people to fight. This was a progression that culminated Jan 6th when the election was to be certified by congress.

This is true of absolutely every single politician from every party. They care about themselves and getting reelected above all. Do you really believe Pelosi and Schumer are impeaching Trump because they strongly believe they need to in order to save the Republic? They are doing it as a political tool to smear Trump and all Republicans. They believe this will help the democrats stay in power (keeping them employed) the day that belief changes is the day this stupid charade ends.

    MadeAliyah,

“The ‘trial run’ was done by BLM and Antifa.”
Republicans don’t get their own reality created by the web of lies that they are constantly reading and listening to.
“The next time the police will be prepared and will succeed in defending the Capital.”
The president has lot of power over security in DC and if he is in favor of an insurrection, there will not be more security. In fact, the weak security this time was due to the president’s administration ordering the capitol police to not be properly prepared and not to engage the rioters. The capitol police revealed the letter that he received from the administration.
    “Please tell us more.”
I assume that you know exactly what I am referring to.

    TVAP-
There were thousands of people who were very prepared. Military gear, weapons , advanced scouting and coordination.

If you actually listen to his speech then you will realize that the words “peaceful protest” are meaningless.

I will admit that if I believed in what Trump said at the rally that the election was stolen, that he won by a landslide and the Dem’s are destroying democracy and stealing the next 4 years, I would have been part of the riot and not left the capitol building without a few politicians in handcuffs. ( or worse.)

Republicans Defenses of Trump that are worthless.
    1) No impeachment trial after leaving office.
    Constitutionally and historically untrue
    2) Whataboutism.
That is a five year old’s defense
    3) He said the word peaceful.
It is all about the environment that he created by his words and actions.
    4) He never expected this to happen.
He is expected to know better. There was intel of very bad people joining the capitol rally.
    5) He stopped it in real time after the rioters breached the capitol.
    He did not.

23 years ago Republicans believed that a president committing perjury was a reason to remove him from office. How far they have fallen.
If next time a democrat president does exactly what trump did , would you still be opposed to removal from office?

You don’t get to respond to my point by making a random irrelevant statement.

The capitol police revealed the letter that he received from the administration.<
Are you referring to the letter that Steven A. Sund sent to Nancy Pelosi? I read all eight pages of that letter looking for the ‘president’s administration ordering the capitol police to not be properly prepared’ and didn’t find it. The letter-writer pointed out frustrating bureaucracy
and incompetent officers who have since resigned. If your allegations may be true and Trump or his appointees are responsible, then of course we should have an investigation and the offenders must be punished. However the DOJ and FBI are under Biden now, so why don’t you complain about his inaction?
(No, the impeachment doesn’t cover that)

    >“Please tell us more.”

The footage is horrific and worse than I expected. There is no question that there were individuals Beyond those who were there purely to instigate violence and pave a way for this impeachment, who got caught up in the violence. I would not have expected it from the regular Trump supporters and I still don’t know that that is who these people are but I am open to the fact that it was worse than I thought. The problem is that none of this points to the actual legal question of incitement. People are angry because of all the crud that was piled on them over the last 4 years, and I would say Pelosi and Schiff have incited more people to violence through their devious use and abuse of power than anything Trump could spew.

I disapprove of every single thing that went on that day, but when you have a murder trial and you spend your time proving that the person is dead instead of proving that the man on trial did the killing you have done a bad job, and your purpose seems more about manipulation than presentation of facts. I wish they would stick with facts. For the last four years I’ve wished they would stick with facts. I’m sick and tired of them being manipulative and trying to get their way through manipulation instead of facts.

January 6th was horrific it was worse than I thought it was. I learned that from the videos. But they still have not proven the legality of what Trump did to contribute to it separate from those who they can prove organized it well in advance.
