I consider myself American yeshivish. I have lived for many years in Jerusalem.
For a variety of reasons we moved to a suburb of Jerusalem.
We are very happy to be here – the atmosphere, Rabbonim, friends….it is all great.
One thing that has struck me right in the face is the amount of littering everywhere. Of course we had this in Jerusalem….but this is a whole new level.
This is a pretty mixed crowd – Israeli born people, as well as many anglos from all over. Why is it like this and what can we do to make it better? I mean it is pretty disgusting and I am cringing to think what my friends and family will see when they visit.
I always say we are overwhelmed with kids so that must be the reason for all the litter – the parents can’t keep on top of these details. But families seem to keep on top of health care & food for all their kids. Why not some basic manners about cleanliness in the public sphere?
I am wondering if there are any ideas out there for this idea of cutting down on litter.
thanks

#2 A friend of mine who lives in Jerusalem makes it a family project to pick up the trash, they consider it a privilege and honor to clean the streets of Jerusalem. Perhaps you can do the same. 🙂
