I’m wondering why I didn’t see the story of the lone soldier who was missing and then found dead of gunshot wounds. His name was Dovid Menachem Gordon – age 21. I received an email about it and a few ppl also mentioned it. Did I miss it here on YWN. I looked but couldn’t find it.

It did not appear on YWN at all. If I had to guess why, it was because they are following American media guidelines about publishing positive things about suicide victims in the immediate aftermath and it would have been very disrespectful to say something negative.

Sam2 – It was a suicide? I guess I missed that part. I thought he was killed by terrorists.

gefen: From what I have heard, they have not released the ballistics evidence yet so they haven’t proven it, but it was from gunshot wounds and his gun was found next to him. Also, people knew (and presumably were attempting to help) that he was suffering from severe PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) after being in Gaza.

I think we should refrain from speculating about the cause of death until it’s officially released by the IDF.

    This soldier was my hero.

He wrote articles about having been abused by several members of his community and opened a website about it to encourage others to get support. He worked on identifying his abusers and making sure they lost access to other boys (some still pending in court). He worked with Magen, a group in Israel that fights pedophiles and those who hide them. He was a true hero who, in his own words, chose “leadership over privacy”.

    He was my hero.

Syag – I read about that too. So sad and horrible what he went through, and yet he went on to fight for our country! Definitely a hero!
