I recently took a very very hard chumash test that I thought forsure i would get in the sixties…I davened before the test that i should get a good mark and i took the test making up a lot of answers and not knowing a lot. I just got the test back today and i got a 91%!!

A lot of answers i guessed were right!! Now I see that if you daven Hashem will always listen!! (even though you wouldnt want 2 take advice from a 13 and a half year old take it from me just this once!!) DAVEN!! Hashem will answer all your tefilos!! IM AN EXPERIENCED PERSON!!

Gumball, you are correct to daven before an exam, but that is just a small part of the preparation. Studying is still the number one method of preparing for exams. Consider this – would you want to be operated on by a doctor who made up a lot of his answers? You had best make yourself a study schedule so that you study a certain amount of time everyday and when it comes to eam time, then a good review should be all that is necessary. Doing this will also prepare you for later life when you must establish a routine or you will get nothing accomplished. Consider your high mark a one time gift from Hashem and now you must prepare yourself properly for exams – and for life.

sea shells- I feel your pain. I am sorry for all that you are going through- its not an easy parsha. its easy for me to say now that I’m out of it but the truth is that i always thought about one thought until my bashert came around. I heard from a gadol (I think R’ Matisyahu Salomon but not sure) that there is not such a thing as a parent or anyone else pushing away your zivug. only a person themselves can push away the right one. this helps when parents say no to something that you thought might be a good shot or if unfortunately friends give bad info and that ruins things for you. just think that they cannot push away your bashert.

I remember a teacher in HS speaking to the whole school when she got engaged at around 30. she said all the time that she davened and spent begging hashem was not a waste but Hashem just had to prepare her husband- like a baby waiting for a bottle. it takes time. she married a ball teshuva who was not even frum at the time that she started dating!

Gumball, you didn’t do your homework. The assignment was to investigate the difference between cause-effect and proximity of events. Consequently, you fell again into the trap. It’s not too late, so do your homework and then you can go out and play.

Adorable: thanks for your sympathy, I feel for older ones in the parsha very much… And It also scares me that chas veshalom it might happen to me… the way things are in the world now… I’m not at that madraiga to be tested like that to wait any longer then I already have… I will probably lose total trust in hashem! the shidduch crisis is deteriorating my trust in hashem already! that girl must be on a really high madraiga to accept such a thing like that… I hope noone else should have to go through that!! My brocha to everyone is that the parsha of shidduchim should be short and easy for every single one of you!

Gmar chasima tova! MAZEL TOV Adorable!!! I am truly happy for you may you merrit to build a bayis neeman beyisrael! Amen!!:)

    old man,

what makes you think it wasn’t a case of cause and effect? Do you not believe that tefillah can be the cause of good things happening? If so, I really hope your tefillos should be answered soon in a way that will give you no choice but to see the emes.

thank you! Amen! Its obviously easier to say these things once you are engaged and out of that nisayon but its just something to think about. and i love the fact that no one can push your bashert away. it just goes to show that unless you are dating guys and saying no for no good reason you obviously did not meet your bashert yet. you dont wanna get married to the wrong guy and go through a divorce C”H just so that you can get things moving. you will appreciate your husband more and more every single day that you wait for him.

One needs both preparation and davening.

    They are not mutually exclusive.

We see this all over Tanach.

BTW, the advice and jokes above are really good!

Daven before the exam, but study before…thats the proper way….

Daven for parnasa, on your way to work is the best way…

In my opinion, abandoning Torah study and replacing it with tefillah, expecting to then know the Torah that was not studied is an unacceptable hashkafah.

    #814164

    old man,

on that I agree. However if one did do the wrong thing and davened instead of studying and then got a great mark would you not agree that its certainly possible that the tefillah was the cause of the good mark? From your previous post it seems not.

(I’m not saying its certainly the cause – it could be that she just remembered more from class than she thought she did and therefore had a gut feeling of which answer is correct)
