Must you repeat it if you lost your breath and didn’t finish it in one breath?

If the ten names are said in multiple breaths, the reading is 100% fine. In fact, I would argue that if reading it in one breath is going to cause some of the words to be swallowed or rendered incomprehensible, then you *should* read it with more than one breath.

There is a trick to it, and the person reading the megilla can take in extra breath without stopping completely by doing a little trill every couple of ‘v’ess’ – when you do a trill as opposed to keeping the same note you actually breathe in a little at the same time.

Having said that, it only just about keeps you going until ‘aseres’.

I guess so. That’s another cruelty of Haman–giving his sons such long names.

@rebyidd23 – I never thought about it that way. 😀 What do you suppose life would be like if people called us by our screen names in real life?

The trick is to practice it beforehand. Twice a day, when you wake up and before you go to bed. Take water with it. Try to get it down to all the names in 2 seconds. I’m sure it’s not impossible.

    Even l’chatchila it’s a kosher reading.

Ideally, a person should do it in one breath, but if he cannot, he can do so in multiple breaths.
