Growing up, I always knew that the world of prewar Europe was fraught with anti-Semitism, and that Jews were regularly denied protection of the laws and punished on the pretext of crimes that they hadn’t committed. In contrast, I was told, the US affords us the full protection of the laws and freedom to practice our religion. (As a result, I was taught that we owe allegiance to the US in the way that our grandparents in Europe never did to their home states.)
Lately, though, I’ve seen some people claim that the US justice system is corrupt, that Jews cannot get fair trials and the secular authorities are out to get us.
How does this reflect on what I’ve been taught about Europe? Is the anti-Semitism the same? If I don’t see such tremendous bias, can I assume that my impressions of pre-war European anti-Semitism were overblown as well?
Lately? The anti-Jewish biases in the American justice system is not a new phenominon. Its been known all along.
That being said, pre-war Europe was significantly worse by comparison. But that in no way justifies the biases here today.

In what way is the judicial system corrupt and anti-semitic? I’ve read and know personally of numerous cases where Yidden (sometimes Frum) are put in prison and I know of few to none where the Yid in question was not guilty of some crime or other.
I think that people like to see our community with rose-tinted glasses and refuse to acknowledge that Yidden are capable of committing crimes.
