    Coffee-

No matter how you cut it, going on tv to promote a song or singer(s) is Falling in the hellenistic trap, to want to find favor and be like the yivanim

ok I see that no one was interested in what it was talking about, just that it was “on TV”

they were actually making an album for bone marrow transplant, which I thought was a big Kiddush Hashem,

and if that is the case going online to promote oorah or a cd would be the same (something which ywn has been doing)

    #839013

thank goodness gracious YBC or eli gestner or those people have never been on tv or anything.

    #839014

    wait!

    they have been.

Kiddush Hashem?! Its called a Kosher chazer fissel! (A Kosher pig’s foot)

A mitzvah Habah Beavayrah is not a Kiddush Hashem!

WIY: Mitzvah Haba’ah B’aveira?? Why, because they asked for money online/on tv? Let me know when any Frum institution refuses money unless it comes from someone who doesn’t watch tv/use the internet.

    Sam, and the rest,

Question, Do you think the maccabeats are trying to impress jews or non Jews when going on live tv?

    Yitzchokm,

If I put a video of you on live tv, who are you trying to impress?

The answer is no one (I might be trying to do the impressing for you)

Yitzchokm: I know for a fact that the Maccabeats want Jews to hear and see their videos about the holidays. In this particular instance, since it is a Tzedaka campaign, they would love to reach both.

    Sam2,

What you happen to know is irrelevant, since I am writing about their actions, not thoughts.

Copying (“modifying!!” non jewish music, dance styles, makes it (at least) look like they are pandering to the yivanim

so let’s write about Tamar’s, Yehudis’, and Esther’s actions not thoughts the thought is what makes it Lishma

Yitchokm: Jewish music throughout all of history has just been taking the Goyish music and using it for purposes of Kedusha (and sometimes not even then).

    coffee addict-

ya, your, right. the maccabeats can be compered to Tamar, Yehudis and Esther. And so whatever they do we must not question them.

    Sam-

the maccabeats, (see above), are like some gedolim who took non-jewish songs and were mekadish them for us. End of discussion.

Just because others do it, doesn’t make it less of a problem.

When I filtered my water through a filter which was not changed in 8 months it didn’t come out clean. Know why? Because the filter was not pristine and pure. When the Tzadikim filtered songs based on teh Baals Shem Tovs vort of “Kchu Mizimras Haaretz” it was Tzadikim and gedolim filtering, not general public. Know why? Because we need a refined clean untainted pure filter consumed wiht Yiras Shamayim to properly filter. especially for music which is the song of the soul.

I guess its Traif for the Maccabeats to do this, but its 100% Kosher for Oorah to call itself Kars-4-Kids

The maccabeats is the same as kosher style food. Treif but looks and sounds Jewish. A lot of their music is mostly off of the radio and almost exactly the same except for some clever word changes. Additionally they have performed non Jewish songs with no changes whatsoever. They have music videos with girls in them and they keep pushing the envelope.

They delude themselves and us by calling themselves maccabeats. They should calm themselves misyavnimbeats if they wanted to be honest with themselves and us.

Wow. Just wow. Mods, why are you letting pure, purposeless bashing of Frum people through here? Do any of you think that the Maccabeats don’t ask Shailos (I think to Rav Willig) before they do controversial things?

What is the comparison between the ACTION of the Maccabeats and what Oorah CALLS themselves?

they have a lot of reasons to put this video on TV… we don’t know why they did that…

if you don’t agree with that don’t listen them and don’t watch them even on the internet…

personnally i don’t think its “really jewish music” …but its probably better than a totally goyish music …

maccabeats its also for kiruv i think…so…

The actions of Oorah, they advertise on the Radio and dont tell the goyim where the money is going.

I have no problem with them raising the money and for what its for, but I have a problem with them raising the money and NOT telling people the real purpose and deceiving people

Sam, yes it could be that they asked, and if they did get das Torah, then they are right. I don’t think they did.

    Coffee,

I like sarcasm. I use it a lot.

In regards to your comment, the same questions can be asked of the singers you mentioned.

i think the real problem its not “this video on TV” but this video and that kind of “jewish music” , and the message they want to get with…

personnally i don’t considerate that like jewish music …

    Yitzchokm,

Ok I hear you, I also don’t agree with this type of music (I never even heard a maccabeat song until now) I thought you were directing your criticism specifically at the maccabeats going on tv not at their music

My post was specifically meant to show that cnn had a video about them for their efforts in regard to treating bone marrow which I thought is somewhat an Or LaGoyim

Btw, I did watch the segment.

As a side note, re: Jewish music today,

At the rate we’re going, in a few years “orthodox reggae singer/rapper” won’t rise eyebrows.
