    1. This festival involves Avodah Zarah

    2. It took place on Shabbos

    3. It took place in Minnesota

    4. He is called Mr. Hall

    5. Our beloved Charlie hasn’t commented because he’s not as stupid as I am to even address this silly post.

Charlie, I am puzzled. I know your expertise is in Biostatistics, but what are your qualifications vis a vis this thread? What made you think you may have any info to add to this topic such that you offer an opinion on this issue in particular?

    PY,

He probably knows someone who is an expert on this issue.

I have met Charlie, he is a great guy (that doesn’t mean I agree with everything he says).

Charlie, I think some people here (and on other sites too) are very intrigued about you. I think some people think Charlie Hall is not your real name. They think it is like Charlie Brown, a fictional character. It has a very generic ring to it, especially if one comes from a sheltered frum background.

Anyway, maybe some of you will be zoche to meet Charlie someday and then you will see what I mean.

And many of know that he is Charles B. Hall, PH.D, Professor, Department of Epidemiology & Population Health, and Professor, The Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology. Despite our frum, sheltered backgrounds. And I would be thrilled to meet him, I’m sure he’s wonderful.

I actually do exist and I use my real name when I publish comments online.

How can we know you are not impersonating Dr. Hall from YU?

As the CR rules prohibit showing who people are, I will not post a link. But you can easily google Dr Hall and find some rather informative videos on youtube.

I’m unaware of any videos of the real me on youtube. There is a Christian musician who shares a name with me, but AFAIK we are not related.

    Dr Hall,

There are some videos published by YU.

Go to youtube and search on “charles hall yeshiva”

That might stimulate your memory 🙂

“Our” charliehall claims to be a PhD at Einstein Med. He seems to be rather educated. He has claimed to not shave. Can I say he is 100% the same person? No, but the circumstantial evidence is strong, so I’m satisfied.

If you really want to find out, I guess you can email or call. Dr Hall’s contact information at Einstein is available if you search the web (he has mentioned that a while ago).

I could be wrong, but I may have met you several years ago (late 2007) at the YU open house when I was looking at colleges. Do you do the bio department tour? I remember a guy who looked vaguely like you. (Yeah, I know. A guy with a beard at YU, like that narrows anything down.)

No, I have not done any open houses. And I’m rarely at the main campus.

    ROTF!!!

Yeah, I don’t know why I thought that a professor from the medical school would be doing the undergrad open house anyway.

When I arrived at Einstein almost ten years ago, it was almost a different university than the main campus, with almost nothing in common except payroll, the lack of classes on Shabat and Yom Tov, and the kosher cafeterias. Richard Joel has tried to create more cross-campus collaboration and some of my colleagues have been involved with those efforts. But having four campuses that aren’t that geographically close to one another does not make it easy.

As a kid, my folks used shop for suits at a chain called Robert Hall. Robert Hall was big enough to advertise on radio and even had their own jingle, though I’ll have to think a while to recall the lyrics.

Was that chain owned by a relative of Charlie’s?

Charliehall hasn’t visited the coffee room in years.
    Like so many other posters….

(Maybe to celebrate their recent refurbishment of this site, the mods should invite the oldtimers to stop in and say hello.)

He has had similar lengths of silence in the past where he posted after a long such a long pause.

I just noticed this. I still exist, but I am very busy with work and learning (made a siyum on Yerushalmi Maasrot just nine days ago!) and am trying to be involved in fewer machlokets. 🙂

AFAIK I am not related to Robert Hall.

btw, I almost met you during the summer. Since you probably don’t know who I am, you probably don’t know what I mean.

    Welcome Back Charlie Hall!

Is Facebook taking up the time you used to spend here? Or are you unto the next mesechta in Yerushalmi?

    Joseph,

Thanks! Work has been taking up a lot of time, and so has learning. Since my last post I have also completed Yerushalmi Maaser Sheni, and just last Shabbat completed Yerushalmi Challah. I hope to make a Siyum shortly.
