    Meno:

Finding the Meno in MENOrah is indeed another miracle of Chanukah!

Interestingly if you rearrange your username you get Nemo, from Finding Nemo πŸ™‚

Look at what comes after Meno. Of course in english, it could be “Rah, rah, rah!”, like a cheer.

    Haha lol LU!

Makes sense now that you put it in that light.

    Hmmm…. yes or maybe it’s really ra’ah

“yes or maybe it’s really ra’ah”

    uh, except it’s not…

I just realized that in hebrew, it is spelled differently though.

Do you mean Rah in menorah or in ra’ah?

Rah is Reish Hey and menorah ends in Reish Hey.

    So does Orah.

    And Torah.

LB-Rah meaning bad is “reish ayin”

MDG- nice. also spelled with an ayin though in hebrew. And in english, it’s “ra” not re’ah.

But it definitely fits Meno better than “ra” does, so I guess we can leave it at that.

Meno – go to Aish.com, click on Jtube and check out the 3rd (or 4rth, depending if you count the one on top or not) title there. I thought of you (and that other thread) when I saw it.

I don’t see anything that says JTube on the Aish website. I’m really curious to see what this is about

Sorry, poor instructions – first click on Jewlarious and then click on Jtube. (btw, “It’s all about the nail” should be in there somewhere too).

No, these are Jews you’re talking about, holier than any menorah, and they are discussing linguistics and etymology.

“No, these are Jews you’re talking about, holier than any menorah”

    RebYidd +1.

I do hear your point, Pro Jews, and it’s nice that you have such sensitivity to divrei Kedusha. I personally am not on that level so it’s hard for me to see the problem here, but I think that Rav Akiva Eiger, zatsal (was he the one? Where’s my bekius expert, Iacrsmma?) might agree with you.

Ditto. I was davka trying to be sensitive to your feelings, because I was concerned that you might be insulted by my writing +1 to RebYid, and I didn’t want you to think I was chas v’shalom putting you down by writing +1 to RebYid.

I’m so sorry you took what I wrote the wrong way, and I appreciate your telling me so. I was trying to tell you that I think it’s beautiful that you are so sensitive to Divrei Kedusha. I didn’t think there was anything offensive about that and I feel so bad that you were offended by it. I really meant what I wrote – I really do think it’s beautiful that you are so sensitive to Divrei Kedusha, and it reminded me of a story with a certain Gadol (was it R’ Akiva Eiger?) who got upset because he thought someone was being a leitz.

I hope you are moichel me for offending you. I really didn’t mean to. I’m still not sure why you are offended though, so if you could tell me, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, it was Rabi Akiva Eiger. (In that story, it might have been because
a pasuk was used in a joking way, while “menorah” is simply a word.
A version of the story can be found by Googling [mikedem eiger] – it’s
in the second result, and it’s on the page numbered 228 – it’s a Camp
Agudah thing including the chapter on Camp Agudah in They Called Him Mike.)

(Because Aish will have posted more JTube since the earlier posts,
    the directions are now incorrect.)
