soon in feb. i will have to choose between them. does anyone know the rules for these sems? and the similarities and differences.
January 26, 2011 12:59 am at 12:59 am #746921candy613Memberim also applied to meohr!!!! Meohr doesnt have a dress code because rabbi greenwald stresses individuality. Also he feels that if he can teach a girl to dress tzniusly in sem then after they will keep dressing tzniusly in the future so i liked that! of course they have some rules so things dont get out of hand like no jean skirts, no words on any tops and length and tightness needs to be ok. I hear that they dont ban non jewish music from the dorms and there may be girls doing things that you wouldn’t do so you just need to pick and choose good friends that you can grow from! Good Luck!!!!!
January 26, 2011 1:56 am at 1:56 am #746922obnoxiousMemberso i applied to cl and was thinking about applying to meohr so meohr doest really do rules they believe in using a trust system which i do believe for the most part does work. theyre also mainly hashkafa, but serious thinking type not fluff, although they have gotten a drop more academic by adding some more textual classes over the yrs but still not massivly academic. as for cl they have some rules like no ben yehuda after dark, no going over the green line basically use common sense and dont get killed. also meohr doesnt have a dress code for class and cl does and they both have curfews i believe. as for the academics in cl so theyre in class alot but get alot less work as the tradeoff. the classes are on a high intellectual level and they are tracked so you can be in a higher or lower track depending on your ability and what you want. with girls they seem to attract similar girls but im still a drop confused about that bec no offense but meohr seems more newyorky and jappy while cl is suppose to be more outoftowny
k thats it for now maybe try posting specific questions it works better
January 26, 2011 3:10 am at 3:10 am #746923riki77Memberthanks for answering.
ok obnoxious, more questions.
what do these girls do after sem?? stern, touro??
where are they coming from?? how frum are they?? like do they watch movies and tv and listen to non-jewish music??
how many girls are in each? do they get internet access to email family?? do they connect with teachers?? what about the dorms?? meals??
i think thats enough for now
January 26, 2011 3:40 am at 3:40 am #746924obnoxiousMembertheyre both chilled by’s. girls do come in listening to not jewish music and watching though cl ii believe does go through your ipod to take off notjewish music and movies while meohr doesnt but girls do bring it in. i do believe that by the end of the yr in both schools most girls come out not wanting to listen or watch anymore. meohr has about 90 girls while cl is somehwere bet 50 to 75 depending on the yr. cl does get email not sure about meohr. both schools do have a connection with teachers and i know in cl its like we’re here you could talk you or you could just shmooze whatever you want theres no pushing. meohr dorms are crowded but livable and cl just moved to a dorm this yr before it was in apartments so i have no idea how thats working out. cl gives lunch and supper forsure i heard that since they moved they also get breakfast but i have no idea if its true. and idk about meohr (just in casse you havent noticed i know alot more about cl than meohr but its bec i applied there sooooo….)
January 26, 2011 3:56 am at 3:56 am #746925rockymountainsMembermy daughter is in meohr this year, while it is a trust system there are rules (curfew for one) non-jewish music ,movies and the like are not allowed, although there probably are a few girls who sneak them in.Dress code no denim of any type,no short socks, no writing on any clothing,no floor length skirts.girls in meohr have filtered internet with email address [email protected] no private emails but I’m sure there are some girls that have figured the way around it.Meohrs goal is to further each girl in their personal growth and maturity. It seems like they had a few years of girls who were not as serious about growing in yiddishkite as they would have liked and are now tightening things up a bit.
January 26, 2011 4:55 am at 4:55 am #746926riki77Memberso if i am a go BY girl…kinda a little modern so to say in my school where would be best for me??
January 26, 2011 1:29 pm at 1:29 pm #746927tzippiMemberIy”H all you girls SHOULD have a choice. For many girls, it’s amazing to get into ONE of the sems they applied to, in which case the choice has been made. Hatzlacha!
January 26, 2011 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm #746928pet peeveMemberobnoxious: just one little nit pick:
meohr dorms are not crowded, they moved last year from bayit vegan to malon reich in beit hakerem, and the dorms are now big and spacious. also, they have a little over a hundred girls.
January 26, 2011 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm #746929pet peeveMemberoh also riki, why don’t you wait to see where you get in before making your decision? im not implying that you won’t get in to one place, but its often wise to be sure that you have options before setting your heart on something and then its not even shayach.
February 27, 2011 10:11 pm at 10:11 pm #746931riki77Memberahh, i did get into both!!!! i have to decide and i want to go to both!!
February 28, 2011 12:46 am at 12:46 am #746932fix-it-upMemberMEOR IS AWESOME-BIG FAN@!
February 28, 2011 2:38 am at 2:38 am #746933candy613Memberhey i got into meohr but goin to ateres instead 2 bad could have ended up with you! I know the feeling of having to make a desicion though! IT’S MURDER! you should either sit down and write the pros and cons of each place and think where deep down is the right place, and what you really want. Or you can sit and talk to a teacher or principal and just talk it out. Even if they wouldn’t tell you what to do straight out, it just helps to talk about it! I did all of the above and finally made my desicion, and i can tell you it is the greatest feeling ever! go with your deep heart desires! think about deep down where you really think you will be able to see yourself growing and becoming the best person you can be!

March 6, 2011 3:11 am at 3:11 am #746934lovin lifeMemberMeohr is an awesome place!!!!!! If it is the right thing for you, and you make the most of it, you will have the most incredible year. of course, you must figure out if it IS the right place for you 🙂
Gluck!!!! Personally, I am so grateful for everything Meohr has done for me, and am happy that I was lucky enough to go.
March 6, 2011 6:02 am at 6:02 am #746935smile66MemberI went to CL, and I loved it. I had friends who went to Meohr and loved it. They’re pretty equal schools I think as in the “level” of girls. Many people in CL applied to Meohr most of my friends in Meohr applied to CL.
I think they’re both great schools. I have heard that CL got a bad reputation which saddens me because it is an awesome school, with a really inspiring and caring staff. I went in with an ipod with nonjewish music and movies, and Rabbi Bulman had us all bring in our ipods in he and made me delelte them, which at the time I was so mad about because I had this whole philosophy that I was going to stop doing it on my own… anyway now I am so thankful he did that because I would have never been able to stop on my own like I stopped now.
When I was there, there was a huge mix of girls, I really wouldn’t know what “type” CL girls were, because we had a few girls who were secretly sneaking off to boyfriends but then we had girls who were really yeshivish and could have easily gone to Bnos Chava and others. The mechanchos are all awesome and such sweet women that you can really look up to, and all the teachers were also great. There were many differenet “types” so everyone had someone that they got obsessed with.
They moved to a dorm this year and I know many things changed, so in relation to that I can’t tell you much but feel free to ask me about it and I’ll try my best to answer!
I can’t say much about Meohr because you can never really know a school unless you went there, but I do know that it’s an amazing school, they have a really big shana bet program because everyone wants to come back after 🙂
Good luck deciding, it’s really tough!!
*ps I didn’t get into meohr so I didn’t have to decide between the two. but I did get into another school so I know how crazy it is, you feel like you’re deciding your future and you have no idea how to decide. again, the best of luck!!!!
