As we grapple with the loss of another Gadol many people are wondering who will fill the gigantic void left by Chacham Ovadia zt”l. I decided though to look back and see the mesorah up until now with perfect emuna that it will continue. The Rambam lists the 40 links of smicha after Moshe until Rav Ashi. And after that various people have different lists. Is there one definitive list? On many of these lists there are Rebbeim listed that I cannot find any information on, or their names are simply not descriptive enough. Anybody have a good list with information or any thoughts on the matter?
