So I wanted to give matanos l’evyonim. And I wanted to do it online or over the phone. So I went to kupat hair’s website, and then called them.

Why kupat hair? Why not. Brand name recognition.

So I called and gave them my credit card number, and told them to charge up some money.

So then they asked if I wanted to submit a name for a bracha.

    I said no.

Too bad. You could have requested R’ Elyashiv and then given R’ Elyashiv’s name.

It could be, maybe, there’s nothing wrong with getting a Brocha at the time of giving tzedakah.

I’m not anyone to be addressing the great Posek Coffeeainu, but maybe could be where the gemarah (I use The Illustrated, Little Gemarah Says) says ??? ?? ???? ????, indicating that it’s permissible, means even commendable.

    Correction.

“Why kupat hair?” – so you could do the above, and feel geshmak.

(no offense meant – I did “chapp” hana’ah)

    yungerman: nice

zeeskite: I don’t think there is anything wrong with giving tzedaka to get a bracha.

R’ Matisyahu strongly praised both kupat and the vaad.

    Feif,

are you picking and choosing what to follow?

(In other words you’re still on the internet and he blasted that)

People here listen to Rav Chaim Kanievskly, a strong proponent of kupat.

ZK – and the reason given is because a Yid won’t regret it if his request is not fulfilled. Meaning he understands that he does not have the ability to force G-d’s hand, and therefore is giving whole-heartedly in any event,

1)while many people donate to these places expecting a yeshuah, as evidenced by those who complain afterwards (including in other YWN CR threads) that it didn’t work for them.

2)and these places barely stop short of promising that it will work for you.

Very many people give a bracha when someone gives them tzedaka. I say that we can never tell which bracha from which person will be the one Hashem most accepts on our behalf. Never pass up the chance to receive a bracha from someone. JMO.

I needed a zchus one day, I ate cheerios ,and I got one. Causation proved.

popa: unsafe if you intend relying on that telephone donation for your chiyuv of matanos l’evyonim

Isn’t matanos le’evyonim supposed to be given on Purim itself?

They have to give the money on Purim itself. I assume if u called them and they said they are doing that then you are good. Choc probably is choshesh that they won’t so it is just tzedaka but not fulfilling the chiyuv of matanos levyonim.

I just got a mad craving for Cheerios, so I ate two bowls.

    42: Correct.

More reliable to use your LGT (local gabbe tzedaka)

About the ??? ?? ???? ???? point made above. I have heard that the Chofetz Chaim says that the gemara was abbreviated to ?”? which was *incorrectly* expanded to ???? ????. It should read ???? ????? – meaning that there is no deficiency in the *mitzva of tzedaka*. There may very well be a deficiency in the person giving for having such intentions. I’ll try and find the source.

In any case, this gemara doesn’t apply here since it is a chiyuv of matonas l’evyonim, not a general mitva of tzedaka.
