Only once a year… How about observing it every day?
every day is mother’s day for us 🙂
If you haven’t observed the other 364 days, then you’d better observe the 1.
That’s what I always say, but it still is nice to be treated EXTRA-special.
Why should Jews not observe it? It’s not a religious holiday.
There’s nothing wrong with making a day special for your mom. As a matter of fact, it’s probably “kibud em” to do something nice for her on Mother’s day (or any other day that you want to designate for your mom). It’s not like you don’t love/appreciate/respect her all year round.
I treat Mrs. YW Moderator-72 very special on Mother’s Day. after all she takes care of all the jr-72s.
here’s is what I do:
I prepare breakfast – usually scambled eggs with onions and potatoes (coffee also) After breakfast, I start working on lunch – nothing to heavy.
for dinner, i go with an old standby, I grill hot dogs and hamburgers on the foreman grill, I through on some vegetables (onions, peppers and such)and deep fry french fries.
Of course, all the pots and pans as well as the plates and utensils I insist that she wait until Monday to wash them. I let her wash the grill on Sunday as it it easier to wash while it is still hot.
72, you mean you don’t wash them all yourself??
moish01: isn’t it enough that I make the meals for myself that day so she only has to worry about herself and the kids?
ames: I buy Mrs. YW Moderator-72 a lovely assortment of scratch-off mother’s day lottery tickets (a few from NY and a few from NJ)
ha funny.
silly question ames. I give her pre-scratched ones so she doesn’t have to go searching for a coin (very considerate of me, wouldn’t you agree) 0h… and this way, I can cash the winners for her and give her some of the cash…

Don’t know what you consider expensive but some ideas that I’ve gotten for my Mom…
Perfume:(I think it’s her favorite gift) $70+
(Wooden) Salad bowl with matching serving spoon and fork: $40
Flowers: (I’m not sure that’s so personal) $20
Mother’s Day Card: (It’s a good cop out idea if you have no idea..) $3
I think she’ll feel good just being thought about, no matter what you get and how much you spend…
if I kept it religiously, I would let her start washing the dishes an hour or so after shkiah…

BYM, do you go to school? how were you able to post 6 hours ago? (I think I’m getting jealous. 🙁 )
is that why they let you go to convention? They figured you weren’t there anyway, so they weren’t missing much? 😉
as for my idea…
I heard once something like giving a card saying something like free pre-cooked supper, or free shabbos flowers, etc., able to be redeemed at any time.

kapusta: i don’t think so. but maybe partly. i just know that’s in my father’s recipe but i don’t pay much attention cuz i don’t eat cabbage.
AOB, my father will not make stuffed cabbage without rice and he’s as hungarian as they come.

-Ipod(fully loaded, mom loved that one)
-jewelery(but not too costy-recession)
-GPS(she she doesn’t call ya while driving for directions)
-apron(to stay in budget)
-new pots
-camera
-gift certificate to her fave store
-take mom out to dinner

-blow up some nice family pictures & frame them in nice frames

we dont quite get off from school…..but ya. its my 5th ap so im used to taking off a lot of school! of course i enjoy it too, i get to post here…
