Apparently.
I used to think it held 12 gallons, since that is a nice even number, and it seemed to take about 11 when it was looking pretty empty.
But then one day, I was driving recklessly on an empty tank, (in vermont in the middle of the night) and when I stopped to fill up, it took a bit over 12 gallons.
So then I thought it held 14 or 13. 14 is more round and even.
Now I see online that it actually holds (Honda civic LX 1998) 11.9 gallons.
But I once got over 12 in!!!
April 9, 2012 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #898552mewhoParticipantperhaps the gas station was wrong and giving u less than a full gallon for each gallon registered.
hey, you never know
April 9, 2012 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #898553ckbshlMemberapparently the gas station has been ripping you off!
April 9, 2012 9:13 pm at 9:13 pm #898554popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, and once we say that the gas station’s meter was wrong, it is possible I really got as much as 13 gallons in!

April 9, 2012 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #898556dash™ParticipantI think Honda is only measuring the tank, unlike NASCAR who also measures the fuel line
April 10, 2012 12:07 am at 12:07 am #898557ItcheSrulikMemberpopa: Well played, sir.
October 3, 2012 3:48 am at 3:48 am #898558popa_bar_abbaParticipantSo just recently I got 11.82 in. So I figure I was 3 miles or so from running out of gas.
But after seeing this thread, maybe I really had 5 gallons left.
October 3, 2012 12:13 pm at 12:13 pm #898559Derech HaMelechMemberAlso check underneath your car. Maybe it only holds 5 gallons and the rest is leaking out the bottom of your car.
October 3, 2012 2:03 pm at 2:03 pm #898560popa_bar_abbaParticipantYeah, and maybe the ???? had a leak and people were falling out the bottom. But probably it just expanded.

October 4, 2012 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm #898562ItcheSrulikMemberMost cars have two gallons extra “emergency capacity” for the geniuses who like driving on empty tanks.
October 4, 2012 5:28 pm at 5:28 pm #898563yaakov doeParticipantI thought that everyone knew that at least a gallon can be held in the pipe leading to the gas tank. The pump shuts based on gas in the pipe so of course a fill up when actually empty will be for more gas than the advertised capacity
