    Apparently.

I used to think it held 12 gallons, since that is a nice even number, and it seemed to take about 11 when it was looking pretty empty.

But then one day, I was driving recklessly on an empty tank, (in vermont in the middle of the night) and when I stopped to fill up, it took a bit over 12 gallons.

So then I thought it held 14 or 13. 14 is more round and even.

Now I see online that it actually holds (Honda civic LX 1998) 11.9 gallons.

But I once got over 12 in!!!

perhaps the gas station was wrong and giving u less than a full gallon for each gallon registered.

    hey, you never know

Yes, and once we say that the gas station’s meter was wrong, it is possible I really got as much as 13 gallons in!

I think Honda is only measuring the tank, unlike NASCAR who also measures the fuel line

So just recently I got 11.82 in. So I figure I was 3 miles or so from running out of gas.

But after seeing this thread, maybe I really had 5 gallons left.

Also check underneath your car. Maybe it only holds 5 gallons and the rest is leaking out the bottom of your car.

Yeah, and maybe the ???? had a leak and people were falling out the bottom. But probably it just expanded.

Most cars have two gallons extra “emergency capacity” for the geniuses who like driving on empty tanks.

I thought that everyone knew that at least a gallon can be held in the pipe leading to the gas tank. The pump shuts based on gas in the pipe so of course a fill up when actually empty will be for more gas than the advertised capacity
