Please report here any bugs you found in the new CR.

    To start:

    1. Hebrew language posts have become mangled. (Including retroactively of old threads.)

    2. Many old threads have become split into multiple threads of the same title with posts splitting up between them.

    3. The number of voices/replies to threads are not always correct, sometimes way out of proportion.

Yekke, that bug is related to the #2 bug I reported above.

The latest CR topics that appear at the top right corner of the main page are not the first ones listed (ie most recent) when you enter the CR

WTP – it was like that before. It’s because it takes time to update (I think). And when you looked at the video/photo (I don’t remember which one of those two it was) page, it came up in a very strange order – even different than on the main page. And this was all in the old CR.

Sometimes the name that is listed as the last poster on the thread is not in fact the last one (and this in on threads that do not have anyone “awaiting moderation”.)

Not sure if this is a bug on my computer or if its a bug on the CR.

    4. Comments awaiting moderation aren’t editable until approved. (Previously they were editable even prior to being moderated.)

    5. The time available to edit has been reset to default (5 minutes?) rather than the longer pre-update setting. Please set to 60 or 120 minutes for comments to be editable.

They should fix that. We should be able to fix typos after seeing what the post looks like in the thread.

    5. The time available to edit has been reset to default (5 minutes?) rather than the longer pre-update setting. Please set to 60 or 120 minutes for comments to be editable.

We should also be able to edit other posters’ comments, for maximum manipulation of the discussion.

The most obvious issue, though it’s not a “bug”, is that they made off with all our hard-earned subtitles and transformed all of us into nondescript (may I add- nebbish?) “participants”.
I think the only way to make it up to us would be to implement DaasY’s last sentence.
Oh what fun this place would become if we could edit each other’s posts.

I think only certain users should be allowed to edit certain other users’ posts. For example, nobody but me should be allowed to edit my posts, but I should be allowed to edit everyone else’s.
Also I want our profiles back.

I keep having a problem with the “Mazel Tov” thread. First I couldn’t get in, and then when I did get in, I think it didn’t let my post go through. I’m not sure because I can’t get back in to check.

Even when it lets me in, it takes forever for some reason.

‘ve been getting those a lot too when I’m trying to go from one page to another. I’m usually not logged out altogether – I just can’t go to particular pages.

Also, every time I log off of the site, when I want to go back on, I have to sign in again. It didn’t use to be that way.

Not a bug, but a suggestion: Allow users to edit their posts at any time, but keep a log of the edits at the bottom of the post – each edit submission adds a line such as “Edited by [poster] at NNNN EDT – diff” to the end of the post, where diff is a link that shows what was removed/added. Moderator edits should also generate lines, but with no diff link.

Or, allow edits only until the post is approved.

I understand the need to correct typos, but you shouldn’t be able to edit your post after other people read it, just like in real life.

Meno – what if someone realizes that what they wrote was L”H or onaas devarim or tmi?

In real life, your words aren’t posted online for the entire world to read for all eternity.

Of course people need to learn to be careful about what they write and say, but realistically, they aren’t – that’s why we have a concept of teshuva, and that’s why we want to limit the potential damage that can be done.

LU – So if it’s really that bad they can ask the moderators to delete it.

I think if people don’t have the ability to edit their posts it will force them to be more careful with their words.

The moderators get annoyed when we do that.

“I think if people don’t have the ability to edit their posts it will force them to be more careful with their words.”

I’m not sure about that. When people are posting, they don’t think, “Well it doesn’t matter if it’s LH or onaas devarim because I can always delete.

Its may not be a conscious thought. But I can’t tell you how often I used to post something, then regret it as soon as I pressed “Send”, and just edited it to a blank post. Now, I find myself thinking twice before sending.

    #1244607

Yekke2 – you’re talking now about the immediate editing (before it’s moderated), but we were talking about the ability to edit after it’s moderated:

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/new-cr-bug-reports/#post-1244549

btw, in terms of the immediate editing, I could be wrong about this, but do the posts come out clearer now and t/f easier to edit before the submit button is pressed? I feel like before they didn’t come out as clear and were harder to edit before the submit button is pressed.

Not sure what you were adding with this post? Isn’t this the same thing you said in the previous post. And as far as I can tell, this doesn’t answer the issue I raised in my post.

The point is that we are talking about a situation in which you are allowed to edit before it’s moderated (like before), but once it’s moderated, it would be too late to edit anymore.

Meno’s rationale was that posters would be more careful what they post if they know they can’t edit once it’s moderated. But my point is that, once it’s moderated, there are already people reading it and the damage is already done, so the posters should be careful anyhow, so it wouldn’t make sense to say that someone wouldn’t be careful about what they write because they know they can edit after moderation!! At that point the damage has already been done!!

I do agree with you that I am more careful now that I know that I can’t change anything once I hit submit than I was when I could still make changes after pressing submit. But that is because there was nothing wrong with waiting to make changes after I pressed submit because no one could see it yet anyhow. And it was very hard to really edit my posts properly before pressing submit because it was hard to see the posts clearly.

This would be true only if people were robots.

But people are not robots. They don’t through a whole specific thought process before posting. Rather they have a general mindset when posting. If there were no concept of editing a post, people would have a more cautious mindset when posting.

I think that ideally we shouldn’t be able to edit at all, but for whatever reason, typos often become more visible once you see the post in the thread (maybe it’s something about the formatting).

Yekke – I’m still unclear. Are you saying that the posts aren’t really clearer (before pressing submit), but it just appears that they are psychologically because we know we have to edit them before pressing submit?

If so, I was considering that possibility as well, but I really think they are clearer now. I know that the posts look much different (and clearer) in general although it’s hard for me to put my finger on why, so I think it’s possible that they are different.

But I can’t be 100% sure because it’s hard for me to remember what something looks like when it’s not in front of me.

I decided that I really do wish that we could edit before the posts are moderated. It is hard to really see how what you wrote looks before it is submitted.

I really wish that there was a way to type up posts and then save them w/o submitting so we can don’t have to submit them as soon as they are typed. That way we would have more time to think about them.

You can. Just type it, and save it in your default word processor until you are ready to post it, together with a link to the thread. When you’re ready, just copy and paste back into your browser.

Does anyone know how much time we have to edit once the post is moderated?

I think Joseph posted somewhere that you have five minutes.

    #1244844

    Joseph

Before the upgrade we had 25 minutes from the time you submitted the post to edit, regardless of when it was approved. Currently it reverted back to the software’s default of five minutes; but under the new system you cannot edit until it’s approved and your five minutes starts when it is approved (which might be long after you posted and left the CR screen.)

    #1244846

The inability to edit while awaiting moderation is a bug. The smaller time window is a feature.

Follow yekke2’s sage advice. Type your posts in Word (or equivalent) then submit when it has been proofread to your satisfaction. I do not know if I speak for all of the moderators, but I know that I do not enjoy having to reread a long post because someone edited after approval.

Joseph – thanks for the information.

Mod 100 – “I do not know if I speak for all of the moderators, but I know that I do not enjoy having to reread a long post because someone edited after approval.”

Thanks for letting me know. I had no idea I was causing such complications when I stick in a comma :)! Now I know that it is not worth editing for the sake of a comma.

Thank you for letting us know that the inability to edit while awaiting moderation is a bug. Does that mean that they are working on fixing it?

I hear the logic of typing it in Word first, but the fact is that it is still not the same thing, at least imho, I can’t speak for all the posters. I’m not complaining; just explaining.

It won’t let me write a word in the “New Word Game” that was used before!!! I keep getting an error report:

ERROR: Duplicate reply detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that.

What Chutzpah! I made up the rules to the game, and I never said that the same word can’t be used twice!

There is a spelling mistake on the title of the “New Topic” page – it says “Home › Coffeeroom › New Cofeeroom Topic”.

Not that it should bother anyone, but I suppose it counts as a bug.

The Profile pages seem to work from a Mobile browser, but not a desktop browser. I used an extension to switch my browser to a Mobile profile, and the page loaded. When I switched it back to Desktop, the page stopped working.
