Im curious what you think. The new Shwekey video is promoting achdus which is beautiful, but its done by emphasizing that we shouldnt profile. Rather, we should look at all jews the same. Im not sure if thats true, I think its important to acknowledge that different sects of jews have different sets of values and possibly not associate with them if they can be a negative influence. We can love them but do some profiling at the same time. Am I wrong ? Btw, Im not overdoing it if you look at the editors note he specifically says this straight out !

Interesting that 6 hours later, nobody has responded to you, Simcha. Maybe it’s the mods, out on a long break, but I wonder if it’s something else. I happen to agree with you, totally. Are other less brave souls than Simcha afraid to side with him because they are worried they will appear to be lacking in becoming the completely tolerant, pc person we are all supposed to aspire to be? We do have to love all Jews. We do not have to agree with their views, accept their values, or approve of their practices. After all JC was a Jew too. Should we suddenly all go over to his way of thinking that would be catastrophic.

Shwekey has a great voice and is an entertaining entertainer. But for moral values and hashkafa, there are several sefarim and Talmidei Chachamim that we are much better off getting our guidance from. I”ll let CR members make their own choices; no reason they have to rely on my suggestions. I’m not even a successful entertainer!

Maybe no one posted yet because they saw the title and thought I was referring to the previous video, which is old news.

I’m not going to deal with the OP’s question (out of lack of time 😀 ), but what bothered me about the video, is that while the lesson was beautiful (%100 correct or not), it had nothing to do with the song. They tried changing the words in the beginning, but…just no. It’s about serving Hashem with love, not about loving our fellow Jews.

Simcha, I don’t think that the video meant that we should treat all Jews exactly the same in every way, no matter what “category” they fit into. The point is that we should treat them all with kindness and compassion and greet them with a cheerful countenance. How can we shun a fellow Jew and refuse to even look at him or talk to him? Every time that happens it’s a big chillul Hashem, making people think frum Jews are less kind than chilonim.

CRuzer, I see what you’re saying. But if we truly loved Hashem, then we should love all his creatures, and especially all the members of his people, right? While if we’re just scared of being punished, then we may not love our fellow creatures and Jews will all our hearts, and with all our deeds.

I’m guessing that the response is slow on this one because I don’t think that many people take a Shwekey video that seriously.

It’s, like, you know, just a Shwekey video, like you know what I mean, like you know?

I think that all Jewish singers should stop copying the goyim in all aspects. The music videos are usually inaccurate and cheapen the holy words of David Hamelech which were written with Ruach Hakodesh. Tehillim as well as mamarei chazal are not some gimmick or shtick. It doesnt make sense to go and make some funky cheap video out of it. But again unfortunately the people behind these things are motivated by kavod and cash so they wont be stopping any time soon unless it affect them in one of those 2 areas.

    CRuzer,

I think that you have a strong point.

Interesting that I have not picked this up when I watched it.

yytz, yes it may include it, but they made the entire video about that. They had an agenda, so they tried fitting it in.

I agree with Yatzmich. This isn’t something we have to have an Agudah Convention about.

WIY i don’t think that. I think they work very hard not to make these videos like the goyyim and instead try to show a lesson. That’s why people may be complaining that it’s a little far-fetched from the pasuk ( even though i agree with yytz) but they weren’t just trying to make a video. They were trying to affect people with it so they thought of a good lesson they could convey easily! 🙂

    CRuzer,

I agree with the point that they shouldn’t have tried fitting the song to that, it just doesn’t work.

However your point about of not having an agudah convention about it is wrong. We strongly need achdus among everyone not just sfardim with sfardim and ashkenazim with ashkenazim.
