Lately there has been widespread claims that the chareidim do not contribute to the Isreali economy.
What seems to be following is a drastic cut chareidi families which seems to essentially ensure that they will recieve virtually no funding from the Isreali government.
I was wondering if perhaps all those Chareidim who in Chutz La’aretz who purchase items from Isreali and yet identify with the Hashkofas of the Chareidim should perhaps cease pur chasing from them.
Since I fully identify with the Chareidim and import merchandise that is in the tens of thousands of dollars a year from Isreal, I personally take issue with the fact that it seems the money the Isreali government receivs from me is to be used as a tool to attempt to force my cousins to go against their core beliefs.
1. You hurt every Israeli by boycotting, including charedim
2. You want to blackmail the Israeli government into continuing the death spiral? Something has to give here, a stagnant working population cannot financially support a growing welfare population.
3. GAW gave the best analysis of the situation. The chareidim ultimately win by breaking the shackles of receivership. Let them rely on us in America and elsewhere to get the money they need to live, in exchange for the Torah learning that we support unconditionally. We want to support their lifestyle, their countrymen don’t. It would be a tax that I would pay with joy (unlike the taxes I pay to our own governments).

There are so many aniyim Yeshivos and tzeddaka organizations in America already that are struggling. I honestly don’t think we in America can support all these Israeli bnei Yeshivah and kollel yungerleit if the Israeli gov’t pulled out all support.
The problem is that chareidim in Israel will get drafted if they want to work. Sticking chareidim into the military or National Service isn’t going to help them get out of welfare. It will just make it worse.
The other problem is that chareidim in private yeshivas will now be forced to learn all kinds of kefirah. This is in order to change them, not help prepare them for work.

WIY I disagree. There is a motivation/image issue that holds back a lot of donateable funds from going to black hole tzedakos and schools as you mentioned. But when there is a real connection between donor and cause and deployment of funds, there is much more money available. For example, when the Mir yeshiva needed funds to stay open a year or so back, a person whom I work closely with dissolved a trust to make a big pledge. His precise words at the time were along the lines of this money makes a difference so I will buy a legacy right away instead of after 120. I was also inspired to send money that was earmarked for something else. Neither of us has shaychus to Mir, and we would both do it again for a cause like that.
There is so much money in the hands of people who believe in and support torah. But donors are sophisticated and want their money to be used well.
