Is making a vort necessary? I’ve heard of some in Queens who don’t bother with it. Is that true?
A vort is not necessary. Essentially it is an engagement party with a dvar Torah
It is being phased out, I see people combining the l’chaim and the vort.
The reason they’re not doing vorts anymore in queens is because the street numbers are so confusing so no one ever shows up

Why should both a l’chaim *and* vort *ever* be necessary?
Because of Siegelman’s
L’chaim is for the night they get engaged, after he proposes, and for immediate family only. So both sides can get to know each other. The vort is usually a week or two weeks later for the gantzeh velt.

Queens County is the lesser half of Kings County.
You can have both by having the L’chaim at the same location as the vort half an hour before.
Depends on what the families want. Personally we are happy to combine the two.
