y r u worried? I am no more worried “bumping” a fancy car then bumping a regular car when parallel parking. That’s what “bumpers” are made for. (Duh.) I’m not more responsible to a fancy car owner than to a jalopy owner.

Well, for one thing, it seems like having a fancy car stops strangers from carelessly bumping into you while parking.

my favorite is the people with fancy cars who davka take up two parking spots on the street so that I won’t bump them.

Well, the spot on each side looks pretty small, but it never hurts to try and see if I can get in…

After all, my car is pretty small and my bumpers are all bashed up anyway.

I believe frum people tend to favor minvans, full vans and station wagons. It’s very hard to fit a spouse, eight kids and the carpool into a fancy car.

I can explain. If I were parking a fancy car, I would be so scared of bumping anyone, it would take me two spots to park.

What bothers me is when people edge up around me. I don’t need that space for my health – I need it so I’ll be able to get out without bumping you, at least until I get better at parallel parking.

I park by touch. There is no other way in NY if you are going to be able to park. Spaces are tight and there aren’t enough parking spots.

I just park. If the space is really small and I need to bump to get in, then I bump.

I’ve parked and had less than an inch on either side. You can’t do that without bumping bec your car is longer diagonal than it is straight.

I did that by a fancy car that had parked in two spots so he wouldn’t get bumped. Then I moved my car bec I was afraid he would slash my tires. So I had to bump bump bump again. I really wanted to leave a note so he’d know what I had done.

Once upon a time I parked like that by a not fancy car, and when I came back the guy was there in his car, and he was an old frum man, and he called me over to yell at me, and I went over and said oh I’m so sorry and then we shmoozed for 2.5 hours. Really. He landed in Normandy. He told me so.

That is really impressive popa (the parking with one inch on either side.)

When I was taking my road test, the instructor told me to parallel park into a tight parking spot (well, tight according to abilities at the time).

I messed up with the parking, I was to close to the car in front and two close to the curb.

Knowing that touching the curb or the car would make me fail the test, I was at a loss.

So I started inching my way, one inch forward, turn the wheel, then one inch back. I repeated this for around 5 or ten minutes until I finally was parked.

I was sure that I failed, however the instructor said that there is no time limit and since I managed to park I passed the test!

Move to Monsey and you’ll never need to parallel park… 🙂

A worse problem I encountered lately ( witnessed twice this week)

in Brooklyn is drivers driving with a suspended licence. You may ask how do I know? Well they got into accidents of course and asked the other driver NOT to call police or they will be locked up!This is awful, if your licence is suspended, DON’T DRIVE!!

    Wonderful???

My Yugo drives me just fine to the bar

No dough plunked down on some fancy house

A fridge box fits me just right, with my mouse

    Dumpster diving leaves me satiated

All I know is I pinch every cent

If all other folks were cheap like me

What a wonderful world it would be

??La la la la la la; la la la ??

Never bothered me to bump someone else’s car , weather fancy or not – unless they are in it.

If I’m not mistaken, to purposefully damage another’s property is not allowed (even with the intent to pay). To bump another’s car lightly is not considered damaging, that’s what a bumper was made for.

When I was younger, I once made moderate damage to a mirror on a parked car and left in a panic. How can I do teshuva, not knowing whose car it was?

You are all crazy! You’re not even supposed to TOUCH the other guys car. People become way too comfortable when they parallel park. I’ve seen people push a guys car back a couple of inches! These are not bumper cars.

(sorry for the name calling- I just wanted to be sensational)

    yaakov- lol

In my opinion, this goes by the local minhag. In NYC, the minhag is to bump, because people park so close to each other that you need to. In most other communities, it is highly frowned upon.

I assumed we were talking NYC

In NYC, the people with the fancy cars take up 2.5 parking spots, and the people with the driveways take up 2 parking spots. One for their driveway and one for their car.

So no wonder everyone else around them has no choice but to play bumping cars.

    “Why All the Fancy Cars”

I asked my rov about this, and he said the reason many jews have fancy cars is because if it is fancy there is a heter to be in it on shabbos. It has the status of a tachshit, like a hatzolah walkie talkie.

I guess the part I don’t understand is why new york people have fancy cars. Out of town you can’t walk to shul but in ny you always can, so why are they following kulos?

So the entire world (or neighborhood, if you will) has to restrict their choice of car because of your incompetence at parking?

Correction- we have a driveway and only use 1&1/2 parking spots. And that’s because people block half of our driveway and it’s impossible to get into half a driveway so we park a block away.

Are yall saying that if you scratch a car, or fender, you don’t have to pay, as long as it is the bumper?
