If you look in the Lakewood List, there is a page listing all gemachim. Or get my e mail address from the mods. I happen to be a notary.

an open book- a notary is someone who vouches another person’s signature. They have to see the person actually signing the legal document. Once the person signs, the notary will use a stamp or seal and then sign it as well. I am also a notary, but I don’t live in Lakewood. Sorry I can’t help.

Why do you need a gemach for a notary?

I think they can charge something like $2.00 for each signature they notarize. If you have a lot of docs, it can add up. but for a couple of papers…

YW-72, actually it might not always be the case. If you are notarizing copies of the same document, then there is a different fee.

Also, the fees vary state to state.

    Can I BECOME a notary?

At least I will have $2.00 cash on me here and there:)

Really! Is there a course to take?

Banks often (usually, in my experience) have notaries, and when they do, they notarize for free for people with accounts.

Correct. We had our halachic prenup notarized for free by my bank.
