I’m applying to Michlalah and Machon Raaya (your cue to smirk, Torah and OOM), but my school “heavily encourages” applying to three seminaries. Does anyone have any similar types of sems? Academic, open-minded hashkafa, good girls…

I’m only going to apply if I really see myself there in theory, it’s not just applying for the sake of applying, but it is good to have options.

I will agree with you on darchei binah, there are to many maohrs so I wont agree on that.

    Thanks!

Darchei Binah is not an option because I’d be going with people I’ve been trying to avoid- long story. Also, I’ve heard it described as Michlalah lite, which I don’t have a lot of interest in as I like Michlalah in a large part for the academics and “lite” kind of defeats the purpose.

Meohr seems too chilled for me- while I’m all for having a good time, the academic aspect is important to me. (And Burnt Steak- don’t get it.)

I’m considering Midreshet Tehilla, as one of my friends who’s there now recommended it to me (she’s a very similar type to me so I trust her judgement) but I’m not so sure.

IY”H I’ll get into Michlalah and be able to chill about all this, but it’s still worth it knowing and having options.

    Thanks so much, guys!

What I’m saying is that there is more than one place that is called Maohr. I forgot to post this last time. Many girls who applied to Michlalah, also applied to MMY.

Hatzlacha getting in. Enjoy your year in Israel.

Those are great options good luck with everything! ya, darchei bina is similar to Michala. What are you looking for, Michala and Machon Raaya are different.

popup: Right now, I’m leaning much more toward Michlalah than toward Machon Raaya. The problem is that Michlalah is a popular option in my school this year so that in order to be sure I’ll be accepted somewhere I need to have backup. But it’s definitely my first choice. Machon Raaya also sounds good but it’s a bit more Bais Yaakov than I am at this stage of my life, and I want to grow at my own pace and not be forced into it by my surroundings.

Burnt Steak: I’m thinking of Meohr that is run by R’ Greenwald. I know lovely people who have gone/are there, but I don’t think it’s for me.

It’s funny, because in some ways I really like the idea of MMY, but it seems a bit more Zionist than I am (as in, I support the State politically for the sake of the Jews who live there but I don’t believe that its very existence is a hashkafic concept) and I think that it’s a bit more modern than my parents like, and as they’re the ones paying… :). That said, unless I’d look into it more, I wouldn’t know myself if it was good for me either.

    Thanks all!

Did you find a third seminary to apply to yet?

Oh, wow, I’d nearly forgotten about this thread!

    Thanks for your concern! 🙂

I had a meeting with my principal, who said that as she believes that I will get into one or both of the schools I apply to she doesn’t think I need to apply to a third.

Now I just need to get started on my Michlalah app…
