That’s what I’m making. Google “Fabio osso buco” for the recipe. I’m using veal shank.
March 25, 2013 3:57 am at 3:57 am #941123Ðash®ParticipantDo you want me to comment on the flour or the butter?
March 25, 2013 4:39 am at 4:39 am #941124popa_bar_abbaParticipantNeither. I’m substituting matzah meal for flour, and probably nothing for the butter.
March 25, 2013 4:54 am at 4:54 am #941125BronyParticipantmore than 5 steps and/or ingredients. NOPE.
March 25, 2013 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #941126Torah613TorahParticipantIn whose kitchen are you making this?
March 25, 2013 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #941127rebdonielMemberIn order to thicken the sauce, you are going to need to use potato starch in lieu of flour and in lieu of butter, Mother’s parve margarine. The fat and flour are needed to thicken, and matza meal is too course. Potato starch, though, is nice and fine. (Or try cake meal).
March 25, 2013 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm #941128popa_bar_abbaParticipantrd: thanks, I’m using cake meal so I think it is fine enough to thicken. My father said to forget the margarine though, but I’ not sure why. Maybe I’ll add it anyway.

Mother in law. She saw my posts and said I could cook my own seder. And I was like, awesome, thanks so much, you’re the best!
March 28, 2013 4:16 am at 4:16 am #941132Torah613TorahParticipantDid she like it?
March 28, 2013 4:19 am at 4:19 am #941133popa_bar_abbaParticipantThanks for bumping. It was actually quite terrifically good. You may ask any of my siblings (I made it in my parents’ house–I just wrote in-laws to make that joke.)
March 28, 2013 4:29 am at 4:29 am #941134Torah613TorahParticipantYes, got that. 🙂
So Bar Shattya, was it terrific? (I’m pretty sure that’s one of your siblings)
March 28, 2013 5:15 am at 5:15 am #941135popa_bar_abbaParticipantAnd we did sing v’osso buco for each line of chad gadya. We just replaced whatever was the new one with buco and then sang whatever was the rest of that stanza.
eg. v’osso buco v’hika lcalba

March 28, 2013 6:14 am at 6:14 am #941137chofetzchaimMemberPopa must be a woman. The women are supposed to make the osso buco because: Nashim, af heim hayu b’osso buco.
Our Osso Buco was good too. My mother should have a cook-off with popa.
March 28, 2013 8:42 am at 8:42 am #941138moi aussiMemberPopa, you say you would substitute flour for matzoh mehl, isn’t this gebrokt?
March 28, 2013 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm #941139Torah613TorahParticipantLOL
March 28, 2013 1:56 pm at 1:56 pm #941140moi aussiMemberWhat’s funny, Torah613Torah?
March 28, 2013 4:41 pm at 4:41 pm #941141WIYMemberPopa
You may be in deep water for making a joke out of chad gadya. The chida and others speak very harshly about this inyan.
