Hashem has given me the zecus to have a handicapped child, and to make certain things easier in life we got ourself a designated handicapped parking spot, many times people just park in the spot without looking or thinking, the only way people should learn not to park in a space that’s designated for a handicapped person is by calling the police or a towing company to ticket them (a ticket is around $200)I feel guilty calling the authorities, I don’t want people paying such kind of money on tickets but on the other I need the parking spot and I wish I can give up the designated spot or never needed it in the first place.

(how do you know that they don’t have a handicap permit in the front?)

April 15, 2013 9:26 pm at 9:26 pm #945711benignumanParticipantI lived in an apartment building where there was a designated handicapped spot for one tenant. Many visitors, however, saw the handicapped symbol and parked there without reading the rest of the sign.
You might want to post a large sign saying “RESERVED” in really large letters.
April 16, 2013 1:01 am at 1:01 am #945712yetelzMemberi agree with benignuman. the other parkers probably thought it was a standard handicapped spot not reserved for anyone specific. once they saw the handicap sign they looked no further. why do you even have a handicap sign there? it confuse other drivers thinking it is for all handicap permits. you should have only a reserved sign, with which you will need no handicapped sign.
April 16, 2013 1:11 am at 1:11 am #945713playtimeMemberpilot- I agree with the other posters. If I read ‘Designated handicap’ I would think it means designated for handicap.
I think you should call up your local township to put a “Reserved, violators will be towed” sign.
Good luck.

April 16, 2013 1:48 am at 1:48 am #945715agittayidParticipantI would imagine that someone with a handicapped sticker would know what a “designated handicap” sign means.
If they don’t have a handicapped sticker, they have no business parking in that spot.

I would imagine other people with HC plates, probably don’t realize this is dedicated specifically to YOU. They may think the designation is for handicapped drivers or passengers, as opposed to anyone else, versus YOUR special needs as opposed to other handicapped drivers/passengers. I agree you should get a big “RESERVED” sign to add there.
