It has been an old accepted minhag promulgated by the Rebbe Reb Mendel of Riminov Ztvkl to say parshas hamon, twice torah and once targum, for parnoso. As with all minhagim and segulos, the main idea is to inculcate the moral and concept behind the segulah into your life. Saying parshas hamon is not enough. Making emunah faith in Hakodosh Boruch Hu part of your life and your thinking is the main point.

Thanks so much! Tizke L’Mitzvos!
February 5, 2017 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #1214961mik5ParticipantA segula for parnasssa is to get a job.
February 5, 2017 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #1214962Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantUh…most people have jobs, but job ? parnassah.
Parnassah comes from Hashem period. You have to do hishtadlus, but it’s not the hishtadlus that brings the parnassah.
And the point of saying Parshas haMon is not to be a magic trick or something. The point is to increase our bitachon and internalize the concept that parnassah comes from Hashem.
Being aware that parnassah comes from Hashem is what brings parnassah.
And that is the point of saying Parshas HaMon. Really, we are supposed to say it every day, but if that’s too hard, at least it should be said once a year.

Sounds like that professor is rubbing off on you
February 6, 2017 1:32 am at 1:32 am #1214964The little I knowParticipantThis myth is repeated every year. I would like to know the true source for this “minhag”. Reb Mendel of Rimanov never, ever said any such thing relevant to Tuesday of the week in which we read Parshas Beshalach. He was quite busy with Parshas Hamon, and strongly advocated saying it daily. This was verified with descendants of Reb Mendel who themselves come from Rimanov. I also heard from a quite prominent talmid chochom who claims that prior to a particular event (post-Holocaust), this minhag was never known, and that he was present when someone suggested he would dare to create this minhag. It is legendary that minhagim in which the segula is parnosoh tend to spread rapidly, or in the current vernacular, “go viral”. There is a reputable source from sifrei kaboloh about reciting it “shnayim mikro ve’echod targum”, but again no reference at all to any particular days. There is no explanation I ever heard (having researched the subject) for why Tuesday of Beshalach.
There is certainly nothing wrong with reciting it, but I would be very careful to avoid spreading a lie, that Tuesday of Beshalach is a segulah from Reb Mendel of Rimanov.
If someone can find a reputable source, obviously better than “I saw it on the internet”, I will be overjoyed to see it. Meanwhile, I have addressed this with quite a few major talmidei chachomim. None can verify that there is a source other than something that circulates among “hamohn am”.

February 6, 2017 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #1214966Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantWell so far my only source that there is no source is something that I saw on the internet … I think it was in the Coffee Room in a thread entitled “parshas hamon this Tuesday”…
just joking.. I know you need more of a source to prove something than to disprove it.
But, it’s always good to say it anyhow, so it certainly doesn’t hurt to say it Tuesday of Parshas B’shalach, especially as long as we have no verification that it’s not true. And at least this way, everyone makes sure to say it at least once a year, since every day is too much for most people.

Thank you.
February 6, 2017 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #1214968HaLeiViParticipantIt’s Darchei Emori! Originaly the pagans used to recite Parshas Hamon on the Wednesday of Tu Bishvat. It’s very obvious that this is where the Minhag comes from. In my Shul we purposely lain the whole Parsha, SKIPPING Parshas Hamon!

February 7, 2017 11:48 am at 11:48 am #1214971Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantThe day has arrived! Remember to say Parshas HaMan today!!!!
Whether or not there is a source about the Tuesday of Parshas Beshalach, it is always good to say it. The Shulchan Aruch says that you should say it every day anyhow, so at least we should try for once a year.
And there may very well be a source for saying it today.
February 7, 2017 1:11 pm at 1:11 pm #1214972Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantThere is an article by Rav Yair Hoffman on the main site about Parshas Haman. He discusses it in general, and then he writes about the minhag of saying it today. I have copied and pasted that part. TLIK, I know you wrote that you don’t consider “I saw it online” as a valid source, BUT he does bring sources that anyone who wants to can look up. And he also explains why it is not possible to find the main source.
THE TUESDAY OF BESHALACH MINHAG
A CAVEAT FOR EVERYONE
