    Peppermint starlight candies are available in kosher supermarkets, but spearmint are not. Why is that?

    Because a spear is a weapon and its absence is to remind us that chareidim should not be forced to serve in the Israeli Army.

    But the green stripes represent peaceful shepherds who would never fight, they just have herds of sheep eating grass.
