Pesach is meant to show that Hashem spared the Jews from trouble. In Europe and before the advances of modern medicine many people had children who died in the first few days of life. Therefore out of hakaras hatov to Hashem for sparing their child they called him Pesach. Once the name became established as an accepted Jewish name then people started calling Pesach babies, Pesach.
